Although I am fond of red, I vote for the blue-green in the rug. It might be that you would then have to paint the walls.

If you can find a small print with at least 2 of the rug colors (maybe teal and gold) that would be a practical choice for dining chairs. I do like the rug!

I love that rug! The colors are great. Does the rug come in a larger size? When someone is seated in one of the dining chairs, the back legs of the chair will be off the rug. The person may have trouble moving the chair closer to the table because he/she may need to “jump” the edge of the rug.
When other Houzzers and I discuss rugs for dining rooms, we often suggest that the rug should have two feet of rug beyond the edge of the table all around (4’ longer and 4’ wider than the table measurement) to allow for the chair to be moved out for sitting (or rising) and closer to the table for dining.

The rug is too long and not really wide enough for the table. Do you have a leaf that will make the table longer? The light should hang over the center of the table.

The rug is the wrong size and shape IMO .I also do not think you have enough room for a proper sized rug in that space it would need to cover the whole floor almost.

Amherst - People commenting on things other than your question happens a lot. People mean well; they try to keep someone from going too far down the wrong path.

That said, it looks like there’s a dark blue in the rug, and I’d pick that (mostly because dark blues are my favorite).

Honey, it’s your money. Even cheap rugs aren’t cheap. You may have read that you should start with the rug, but I think you should start with the right rug. When 3 out of 5 posters, including a pro, question the size of the rug, it’s not a criticism of you, it’s a warning to you that you may want to think about potential issues with the rug before you spend time and money on colors and accessories to coordinate with a rug you ultimately come to regret. It’s a gorgeous rug, no one doubts that. If you just want people to pat you on the head and tell you how beautiful you are, stick to Facebook. You will usually get honest opinions here, and frequently opposing opinions, but it’s useful feedback.
