PEEPS! Awwww! You need an egg candler, Zach! With that you can see what's going on INSIDE of the egg so you'll be able to tell if anymore of the eggs are developing or not.

When I was a kid we raised chickens and sold eggs! I was the one who usually had to collect the eggs, then clean, candle, and grade them! All you need to candle them is a small box with a light in it, with a small round hole on top that you set each egg on to see if there's any blood in the egg, or, sometimes, double yokes--they cost more!

Here's a link to a search page with the "type" of candler I used as a kid! I'm not sure why all the "grading scales" came up in this search, but they are also the kind of scale I used to grade the eggs to know which box to put them in!

Get yourself an oatmeal box, cut a small round hole in one end and stick a bulb in the other end and you'll have your own homemade candler! Just don't use too big a bulb or leave it turned on too long in the cardboard box!!!

I didn't know you raised chickens! I have had at least a few chickens since I was a teenager but I have always just bought the ones they sell at the feed store. This was my first time actually hatching them.

The incubator does have a built in candler, but it only worked on the very lightest tinted eggs. I couldn't see inside any of the truly brown eggs. But at about a week in, we could see the veins and the dark spot that was the embryo in the very barely "brown" ones that were in there. I assumed that if the ones I could see in seemed to be developing okay than the others likely were as well. It was a very cool process to watch. It was really exciting waking up in the morning to see the ones that had "pipped" (just barely broken through the shell) then coming home from work to find a bunch of fully hatched babies bopping around in the incubator! Now we will see how many of them wind up being roosters. Hopefully we get at least a few hens. If not well... I guess then it will be time to hatch some more! Well, actually I think this spring I'm crossing my fingers that we get a hen that goes broody since then I won't have to spend the time to slowly integrate the chicks in with the flock.

I might try the oatmeal box and light candler, Skybird. The one on the incubator isn't all that great so I wonder if a different light might be brighter and make it so I can see inside the darker ones.
