Outdoor lighting question- please help

We are building our dream farmhouse in Colorado and our designer wants the exterior of the house lit up at night using soffit lighting around the entire house.

It’s going for an old farmhouse look with all natural stone, natural cedar, fir soffit and fascia trying to use zero man made materials but feel all of the soffit lighting might get a little old or be cheesy I guess.

Thoughts on this?

Foremost, how many actual wall lights do you have? what style will those be? I would do it more like the above photo, not all the way around but more selective. like lighting up the natural stone areas for example. by the looks of the rendering, you have plenty of wall lights on the garage, I assume there are porch lights and possibly ceiling lights in the porch. The thing about a rural setting is light will go a lot further and seem a lot brighter. so it could end up making you more of a beacon than a restful glow.

We have soffit lighting and only use it on occasion but I’m glad we have the option. I would do it

We use it when we have company to have more light on the house at night than just the porch lights. Also when we are out for the night and coming back when it is late.

These are our own at dusk. I wouldn’t normally have on at this time of night but it was for the photo.

I like a home to be well highlighted at night but do prefer a mix of lighting versus on in the soffit. Has he considered some lighting options from the bottom of the home shining up? Or, the up/down lights for any tall sections (not seeing any right away that would benefit from this one but do see many areas I'd use the lighting shining up versus down from the soffit.)
