. Color wash the ceiling then when dry use a rag dip in 1 part white paint and 2 parts water. Apply like you are washing windows. To give a cloud effect. On walls paint a med blue and add chair rail 3 ft from floor.paint white. On bottom find a wall paper with pink, blue and some green, in a very small print. Bedding can be in same colors as wallpaper , you can mixed up prints. A white crib or a very light wood. A glider for mom in a pale blue. Use larger art work in bright Alice in wonderland look. Shelves filled with fluffy stuffed toys. Roman shade own window with colors from wallpaper tie up with wide polka dot ribbons. Use same ribbon on picture frames to give look like they are hanging from ribbon. Group in 3 s.

    Congratulations!!

Based on your color preferences, here are some Sherwin Williams paint colors I found that I believe you will like:

Green: SW6731 Picnic (soft pea green), SW6922 Outrageous Green (vibrant yellow-green), SW6926 Witty Green (light lime)

Blue: SW6793 Bluebell (soft sky blue), SW6779 Liquid Blue (dusty blue), SW6944 Pool Blue (soft turquoise)

    Check them out here: http://www.sherwin-williams.com/homeowners/color/find-and-explore-colors/paint-colors-by-family/)

I'd suggest going with softer colors. They're easier on a baby's sensitive eyes. You can add some pops of color by using accessories throughout the room. Pops of yellow, magenta and colors like SW6840 Exuberant Pink would be cute and would go great with your jungle theme!

I see the nurseries w forest themes have darker colored furniture but I really loved this furniture in a (orangish) cognac color. Will it work?

Yes, especially if you love the set. The curved edges and orange-tinged brown stain will enhance the natural, "jungle" feel of the room. With this furniture, though, black and grey accessories may clash, so be careful! If using neutral tones in the room, go with warm neutrals like creams and browns. The blue and green walls with colorful accents will especially look wonderful with this set, since its a "natural" hue.

You can really bring the furniture into the jungle theme by hanging jungle-themed stuffed animals on the top edges of the dresser of tied to the outside corners of the crib. You can even hang a string of faux flowers (which can be a fun DIY project) along the top of the dresser or corners of the crib so that they drape around the sides. Make sure they're out of the baby's reach, though!

Ok moving on to furn placement-- (pardon the mess, husband hasnt gotten the memo that he needs to mooove out of the babys romm haha!) here are the four walls, (if you walked into the room and turned your head to the left then made a circle clockwise ). The wall with the blackout blinds is the west wall and gets a lot of light after noon. The wall with the openings (north wall) leads to our bedroom (MBr).

So Which wall should the crib be against? Or should it maybe be angled in acorner? How about the armoire? Thanks!

(Maybe you could convince him to move his things once you show him some awesome ideas for a baby room! ;) )

Due to the position of the television and the window, I'd recommend placing the crib against the south wall towards the southwest corner. That way, you'll have enough room to place the armoire or a baby changing table (if you have one) on the same wall, in the opposite corner, for easy access to diapers, burping clothes, clothes, etc.. Also, with the crib there the baby won't be bothered by the sunlight or the noise of the television (as much). Another place for the armoire would be the section of wall on the north side, but I believe that would be a great place for a toy chest or a fun jungle-themed wall decal, such as a giraffe that will measure your child's height as she grows or even that lovely tree bookshelf Brenda suggested.

Angling it, like Travis suggested, would be a fun idea. You could place a faux palm tree or big tree decal behind the crib for a truly tropical look. If you put a full-sized faux tree there, you could hang a mobile from it. Just make sure the light from the window doesn't seep into the crib (babies don't particularly like in their eyes)!

Brenda I had this same bookshelf on my ToGet list. I love it! i found a cheaper version around $200 but not sure ill end up getting it. Depends in what the painting will now cost :(. TY for suggestion tho!!
I looked up full size oak tree decals ( i want mire a forest instead of jungle) and they're pretty pricey at $200-- So I will look up a fake trees, though less mobile I can tuck behind crib in SW angle as suggested. If anyone has sources for decals or fake trees lemme know!! Thanks!

Etsy.com is a good place for decals: http://www.etsy.com/search?q=oak%20tree%20decal&view_type=gallery&ship_to=US&ref=auto1

A lot of them are under a hundred as well (not including shipping costs).

Ideas ideas! I found these 2 on Etsy. The first one is perfect. The wood tone will really go with the furn wood. But it's only 3ft and $120.

The second is $89, 5FT tall and pretty wide but just one color (I think i can paint the trunk n branches to give it more dimension?) ---what say you?
  • PRO
Sometimes, vendors will create custom sizes at the customer's request. I would contact the seller of the first one and ask if you could get it in bigger dimensions. It will cost more, but that's the one you love the most so it might be worth the extra expense.

Decals often have a slick, vinyl surface, so painting it might be tricky. There are paints made for vinyl, but you may also ruin your freshly-painted wall with it if you're not careful.

I also plugged in "oak wall decal" into Pinterest and found this decal: http://www.wallslicks.com/Oak_Tree_7_Foot_Tall_wall_decal_sticker_p/oak.htm

Ooh. Like it! They have multiple trunk/foliage Options --I'm liking this color combo ... Wonder if it (trunk) will be "orange" enough...
  • PRO
If it isn't, you could accent in orange near the tree to "reflect" orange on the decal. Another color combo they have has a "Penny" colored trunk: http://www.wallslicks.com/Oak_Tree_7_Foot_Tall_wall_decal_sticker_p/oak.htm

Unfortunately, they don't have real time photos of all of the color combos to really give you sense of how it will look off of the computer screen. Regardless, this tree is a blank slate, which gives you a great opportunity to add some personal details to it, i.e. sticking on a fake bird or two or even 3-D flowers.

Yes I would think the "penny " would be more copper but its reading more brown/umber on my monitor. I want to angle the crib in SW corner but now wondering if the decal will look strange with a crease (the wall corner) down the middle?! BLReike could you show me in a pic where you mean the crib to go and where the tree should go In relation? I want the tree close to crib as I'm thinking of "hanging" Tigger from a branch :)

Tigger choices (just tigger not the others, only like Tig);)

If the decal were a single color, the crease would merely blend into the decal itself. However, the two toned tree would look less "tree-like" in that same area, so you are right.

This picture below portrays a good option for the tree placement. With the crib in the SW corner, either angled or parallel to the south wall, the tree should go to the left of the crib. At least a fourth of the green branches section need to hang over the crib for Tigger to have enough room to "hang out." ;)

Also, it would be best for the tree trunk section to have above an inch or two of wall space between it and the crib, or else they'll blend together and you'll lose the silhouette of the tree.

    Hopefully that helps a bit.

Welcome back ninjabetic! How's the nursery coming so far?

Your ceiling sheen depends on whether or not you're painting the ceilings white (or another light neutral) or blue. If you want a white ceiling, a soft matte white to will work best. Another, more creative, option is to paint the ceiling the same sky blue and then hang DIY clouds ( http://pinterest.com/pin/237072367857717878/) and even plush or plastic birds from the ceiling.

For the blue sky (including the ceiling, if you prefer that option), I would choose a satin sheen--its not overly glossy and so it remains "soft" looking. It's also much more "clean-able" than the matte.

For the green hills, I would recommend a gloss sheen, just for the fact that its great for areas that need to be cleaned often. Toddlers often find a way to soil or draw on walls, so that would be the best option for the sake of convenience. Also, a glossy paint will look rather neat with the matte ceiling and satin sky!

For more info on Sherwin William paint sheens, check out this link (it'll explain them more in depth): http://www.sherwin-williams.com/homeowners/ask-sherwin-williams/painting/exterior-painting-how-tos/exterior-planning/sw-article-dir-selectingasheen.html

I found the curtains I had made! There are two lined/edged panels of the yellow fabric and two thin (less wide) strips of the green. I love them! What rug would match ? I'm slightly afraid of tripping over it (carpet floor)
  • PRO

I understand your concern! To avoid tripping on the rug, make sure all of the corners lay flat. If they aren't and are curled upwards, try rolling up the rug, decorative side out, and then leaving it for a day or two before laying it back out. That will help the corners lay against the floor better.

You could go with a soft, shaggy rug that resembles grass (click on picture below) to stay true to the forest theme.

You could also find a rug that accentuates the colors and flower theme of your lovely curtains: http://www.loftlivingcompany.com/rugs-kids-rugs-chic-hand-tufted-pink---yellow-kids-rug.html

Or you could go with a Tigger rug: http://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/Disneys-Tigger-Rug-33-x-311/4849613/product.html?CID=214117

The possibilities are endless, it just depends on your personal preferences.

BL I liked the green like grass idea! Thx. Also liked the tigger rug but maybe the green one will be more big kid friendly?! I'm just making this up.
After spending way too long looking at tiny swatches of colors in my SW fan deck I think I'm going to need color paint samples. Darn. Last time I did this for my LR/foyer color selection, it turned into a week long affair and left me edgy -- and I still didn't like the color! Anyway I feel the bluebell, though lovely, is much darker than I want for this room, I was thinking 1) bravo blue or 2) aviary blue. I also liked Lauren's surprise but found it a but-- i dunno--Dusty(?)

With a grass green rug, you will have many more options on suppliers, materials, and quality compared to the Tigger rug. Your first kiddo won't outgrow it quickly, either, especially if you reuse the nursery for the second kiddo. ;) Or you could use it in a forest-fairy themed bedroom when your baby girl outgrows her nursery.

Sherwin Williams can provide you with small paint samples of your paint choose, so you can test out the color. They also have large swatches available.

Bravo Blue is very light and airy, while Aviary Blue is a bit brighter. I think you'd be happier with the softer blue, especially when paired with a more vivid green for the hills.

Hope you're having a lovely weekend!

I'm favoring the Bravo Blue (it's more of a powder blue and seems more sky-like) with the Outrageous Green (it will match the brighter green of the tree decal better; also resembles "the Shire"). Though, any blue-green combo with those colors would work--use the one you like best. :)

"The Shire" is a wonderful fantasy theme idea! To really enhance that theme, adding some indigo and red flower accents would really . Also, your yellow floral curtains match the Shire theme perfectly!

Due to the placement of the windows, placing the crib in the far corner may be too bright for your kiddo's eyes, depending on how the sunlight hits the window. Also, visually Tigger looks better facing the right because it balances with the height of the windows.
BL thanks-- the windows (French doors) face west and get horrible full sun after noon. We do hv thick roller blinds but I think we may need to get the windows tinted. Regardless, which wall would u suggest for the crib then? I'm guessing the east wall? Thanks! I'm glad you're around this weekend ;)

You're very welcome. I have email notifications set up so I can respond in a timely manner, even on the weekends. :)

If you get the windows tinted, the east or south walls would both work well. Though, until they're tinted, the east wall would take the brunt of the sunlight in the afternoon, so I'd recommend the south wall. From there, you'd also get the best view of the crib from your bedroom, and your kiddo would be the farthest from the TV (and the noise coming from it).

By the way, great job on those design renderings of the nursery! Very impressive!
Got it. THanks BL, I appreciate your dedication to your craft! Would you believe I showed my husband the mockups of the nursery and he said it looked "nice" but not terribly impressive as in something he would "want to Post on Facebook" :( Being quite creative, I am deeply offended by this. I do not like cluttered nurseries with colors flying around everywhere. No bees or flowers or butterflies pls. Now it's true This theme was not my first choice, I wanted to do a Narnia theme but Could not figure out a way to reproduce the Narnia Characters on a decal, without violating copyrights. And because of my "condition" I can't spend a month mural painting a Narnia lion n crew on the wks. Harrumph! :0

    You're very welcome!

Husbands are silly sometimes! ;) They looked great to me; they really helped me to visualize, as well. Your dimensions were accurate, as well. Good eye!

I understand. Nurseries often are "cluttered by color" and look more like a "Rainbow Brite" room. Some are cute and are meant to look that well, but too many bright colors are usually too stimulating for a baby less than a year old. That's why I suggested a soft blue for the ceiling, so your little girl won't be irritated by it while she and you are trying to sleep. :) A few pops of color here and there will add some dimension and visual interest, though, but it's all about what will make you the happiest in the end.

I did a little research into Narnia-themed decals and found a couple that you might like (see below). The yellow flower lion would resemble Aslan and you curtains and the other is a quote that you could easily stick to the wall somewhere in colors you choose. A little bit of Narnia is better than no Narnia!
Alright paint is up. I wouldn't say 'yay' more like 'meh'. Hills are angular instead of rounded. Curtains were 1 FT too short so ill need to add border. Mebbe it'll look better once decal tree/tigger/furn is in. I'm not impressed :(
  • PRO
The colors look well together, though, and I believe that the room will come together when the decals are applied and the furniture and rug are added! Even if the hills are a tad angular and the curtains are short, you have a great base to work with. The great thing about this theme is that it is flexible and you can make alterations to suit your needs using accessories.

A quick suggestion for the curtains: use a similar green that borders the sides to add the additional 1 foot; it'll emphasize the "grass" theme being portrayed through the curtains, walls, and rug.

Don't be disappointed, because it's a truly great start! I think you'll be pleased in the end! :)
