Why is the photo sideways?

I've taken a photo of this latest quilt but when I try to insert it here it's sideways and it's not on my computer.

    OK, trying again.

    Yay! Jewel Box.

The reason it's sideways generally is because you took it sideways (turned the camera, phone or tablet to get a better photo).

(I'm using the word. "somehow" because I don't know how or why it works like it does.) When we were all using cameras, there was no problem. Somehow, whether you turned the camera didn't make any difference - all the photos posted online were upright. Then came the tablet. Again, somehow, it didn't know which was the right side up, so when you posted a photo taken by turning the tablet, they were sideways (drove me nuts that people would post those photos and refused to take the time to turn them).

Now, the websites seem to have developed a way to compensate for that "sideways" photo. I haven't figured out why it doesn't always work correctly or show on the web like it does on my computer. The problem with Houzz (or me) right now is that I can't figure out to delete a photo when it shows up sideways.

I wish I understood it better.

Love it Rita. I did do, many years ago, a Jewel box and did use lots of colours. But this is just as effective.

Rita, it’s beautiful! I just love the colors.

My photos are usually sideways in the browse screen, then turn the right way when they are done loading.

I have bought 3 of those wire baskets from Hobby Lobby, different sizes and colors. I also have one in my bedroom and one in the spare room - all filled with rolled up quilts. The one you see in the photo is all quilts made within the past couple of years that have never been on a bed or used in any way. I definitely have a good supply for giving away when needed. I also have 3 quilt ladders full (DH made them) and a regular quilt rack, floor model. All are full. So now I'm beginning to stack them at the foot of a bed in the spare room. I can't stop making quilts because I still have way too much fabric in my closet. :)
