New fireplace height and wall color

We are installing a new gas log fireplace, painting and installing new carpet. On the top of the fireplace will be a white mantle made of crown molding similar to the photo below (fireplace will just go to the mantle without tv above). It should cover the top 4 inches of the brick once installed. Total height of the fireplace is 55 inches. Total width 64 inches. Ceiling height 9 foot in this space. Is this too high or about right? Also, I had Pavestone by SW picked out but it is too dark now that the stone is installed. Trying to figure out how much lighter to go. To the right of the fireplace are 2 paint swatches- Mindful Gray on top and Repose gray on bottom. How light should we go?

Hi mlecure! What a nice project. It looks like it will turn out beautifully.

I don’t think you have anything to worry about on the fireplace height. You’re still leaving good wall space for art above.

I would use the Mindful Gray rather than the lighter one. I think you’ll prefer having some contrast both with your fireplace stone and with the white trim. The Mindful Gray is a good middle ground for that. You might hold the swatches down in either corner of the fireplace by the baseboard trim to see if you agree with me!
