Maybe go with the light gray stone for more contrast with the darker siding. The first sample looks warmer and darker. Nothing wrong with it either. They both look nice.

Never make a color selection off a computer screen.

What does the stone look like on the other three elevations?

(my money is on there is only stone on the front elevation)

But we are still looking at the paint/stone/siding colors of your samples on our computers/phones. What we're seeing may not be anywhere near what you're seeing.

But, if I had to choose just from the photos you've posted, I'd go with the lighter stone that's in your third photo from the top (of the four total photos).

Is the stone going around all sides of the house or is it only on the front elevation?

Depends on your personality and look you want. Subdued and moody, go darker, but if you want light and friendly, go for the lighter stone. It’s the mood you want to convey or welcome you and your guests. Personally I prefer moody but that’s because my new house is on the edge of Appalachia and when my guests arrive, they know they’re in for a different kind of stay in the mountains.

I like the variability in the sizes of the lighter choice, but I would likely not choose either sample.
If it were me, I'd choose a stone that has more variability in color, even if it's all grey, that has the lighter and darker pieces instead of a solid color. IM(non-professional humble)Opinion would bring depth and cohesiveness to the look, rather than competing for my eye's attention.

Yes, atleast the light grey stone. There's lots of lime stone in our area. The other stone reminds me of some of the colors in the creek rock we have back in our woods.

I prefer the first one. I think it looks more classic. But you and your wife have to be happy with it. Taste is super personal, outside of what is ‘correct’. Personally, unless correctness has to do with structural integrity, I think you just have to pick what makes you smile most.

I would not have the stone come up so high on the walls. I would only have it come up to the top of the first floor so it looks like it's there because of structural reasons. Plus then it won't look like an old man's pants are too high.

I find that the shape of sample one is more attractive, and feels more natural, but sample 2 works better with your selected color. Based on how it looks on my computer screen the sample 1 stone and your siding are clashing, even if some of that color does appear in the stone. Having spent a decent amount of time around real stacked limestone houses, the scale of both stones, but especially sample 2 feels a little small for the extensive areas that it is covering.

Okay, off topic, but having only been in relationships where there is not a wife / girlfriend, why is the female perspective most important to keep happy? There should be equal compromises on both sides except where one aspect of the home is used more by one or the other.
