Okna Windows vs Andersen and Pella

Hi everyone,

we are in the midst of researching replacement windows and dont know much. We are familiar with the andersen and pella brands but not Okna. Seems like many professional contractor and window forums like the Okna brand even though they are vinyl.

We obviously saw both pella and andersen and based on some of the performance data we should be looking at, they are both only average? we also arent quite sure we want to deal with the maintenance issues of a wood window either. We did see pella vinyl and it looked and felt cheap so that window is no longer a consideration.

Back to Okna which we saw for the first time this afternoon. An authorized okna contractor/ dealer came by to take the proper measurements and evaluations and showed us his Okna sample. We loved the way the Okna window looked despite it being vinyl. It looked sleek and seemed to be very high end. It definitely didnt have that cheap vinyl look, thats for sure. We have a nice home and only want to do this once. We are investing in 28 replacement windows, all of which are double hung style. We saw both the Okna 600 and Okna 800 series. We love the look of both and quite frankly i will let my husband decide since i will be happy with either.

my question is this: how much better is the okna in terms of energy efficiency opposed to andrsen and pella ? Is $650 per window for Okna a good price? It includes installation.

The 600 is a nice option for that type of installation as an extruded nail fin is available, where some of the other models have a snap in fin. Nothing wrong with either when done correctly, but the snap in fins are more work for the installers.

    Okna model hierarchy:

    Starmark EVO 7500 (composite)

HiMark 1000 (vinyl at this level and down)

1800 (800 with special triple pane)

    800 Envirostar

    600 Eco Pro

    500 Insultec

    400 Precision Weld

Personally I wouldn't opt for the 400 as the 500 is pretty good for entry level and doesn't cost much more. The casement and awning line is the 700 series which is paired with all of the other models except the 1000 and Starmark, as those two top models each have an exclusive casement.

Its important to keep in mind that while there are several models, most dealers don't have access to all. Typically its one or two. There are some different colors and options available in each line as well, the hierarchy isn't strictly linear that way.

The Okna 600 "Eco Pro" is an excellent window, very well made and designed. Its great for both replacement and new construction. Okna will render better energy performance than both and pella andersen by a rather wide margin. I am not a fan of pella at all. That includes their wood, fiberglass, and their vinyl offerings.

Andersen gave us a price of $3600 per window. We have 48 windows. do that math.

Okna pricing came in at about $1,000 per window.

so yeah, $650 sounds really good.

    $3600 was Renewal?

The pricing for the Okna that you are referring to is over 2 years old. The window industry, as well as virtually every other industry has been confronted with severe price inflation. Do not rely on pricing that is 2 years old or even 1 year old for that matter.

oberon76, the rep never said the word “renewal” but did say their new construction product would be 25-30% more.

Window genious, oops i didnt notice the age of the original post. My eyes were still bleeding the $176,000 estimate by Andersen, divided by 48, thats $3,666.66 each. BUT when our friend who owns a window company gave us the okna product quote it was not shocking, it was what we expected.

We prefereed the look and options of Andersen as our home will not maintain its french county/ tudor exterior appeal with white vinyl exteriors. We thought our $100,000 budget was hearty enough.

Our current windows are Pella, wood.

31 years old. appt with Pella next week.

Will your "friend who owns a window company" install Andersen or Marvin - or do they only do Okna?

What model Okna did they quote?

Dennisgli He only uses okna. quoted on 700 series

700 series is the casement operator. They make a Casement inside of their EVO line that I would look at as well.

+1, if you aren't a fan of vinyl, you could inquire about the Starmark EVO composite. Excellent window.

    2) Are you using a white exterior window regardless? Vinyl windows can be made in various exterior colors, most folks would be hard pressed to identify which is which between a bronze exterior vinyl casement and a bronze exterior wood/clad window for whatever that is worth.

    Hi everyone,

We were just quoted $7950 for 10 Okna 600 series windows for our replacement window project. We are finally getting rid of our old andersen wood windows, we will never get wood windows again! After seeing a few window companies, we have come to really embrace the ” higher end” vinyl windows.

The company that came out to give us a quote stated that the install was very routine and they would easily finish all 10 Double Hung windows within one day. The install would include capping the existing window trim with aluminum coil and all garbage would be removed.

We really like the look of the Okna 600 series and it seems to be of a very high quality. We saw about 3 other companies, one of which was the Soft Lite ” elements” window which we also liked. However, we like the company offering Okna. Does our pricing seem to be reasonable? We want to make a decision soon due to upcoming price increases that seem to be affecting every industry.

Thats good pricing for the okna 600. Smart move by jumping on it sooner than later, price increases are across the board.

Thank You. I think I am going with Okna Windows 600 series.

Okna make‘s a great window, you will be very happy with it.

Okna not available where I'm building in SC. Any recommendations for a great window at a reasonable price that would be available in SC. Also, we are interested in black ext and black int.

  • PRO

What material did you want to settle on? There are good recommendations inside all of the different materials.

probably vinyl unless a reasonably price fiberglass is out there

  • PRO

Are you going with a window that is other than white? When you get into the colors, the gaps between vinyl and fiberglass narrow.

the boss has her heart set on black on black, but the price could scare her away.

  • PRO

When you get into the black interiors, you are going to need to look at Fiberglass and Wood. I would start with the Marvin Essentials as well as the Andersen 100.

    Hi

Received a quote for Okna windows.

I liked efficiency and construction of the window. Is this a fair price ? I live in the Phila area?

Should i go with the 600 series?

Need to make a decision asap

    Thanks

Would have been on the higher side of the range that we see 5 years ago, but in today's runaway inflation cycle....it's right in the middle.

  • PRO

+1. For the 1800 with triple pane, that's a solid price. If you have more options (inte/ext colors, grids, etc) or a more complex installation, that would make it even more reasonable.

You'll be very happy with window.

Do you have any pictures of the Okna 700 casement and 600 on your home that you can share? Im an in a very similar situation and am leaning toward Okna vs all other brands. How have they held up to date?

  • last year

$800 a window for Okna 800 series, with grids. 34 double hungs and 2 casements. Total 36 windows.

    Paid $28,800 today.

Do you think I could have paid $700 a window for Okna 800 series?

" Do you think I could have paid $700 a window for Okna 800 series? "

Who knows. Location, size, logistics and what is included all make a difference. But $800 for one of the best replacement windows on the market seems more than fair to me.

  • last year

    @millworkman

location: one of the boroughs of NYC

Size: 60 inch by 32 inches for most

    includes installation and capping

Was thinking having 36 windows could have brought the price to $700 a window? What do you think?

  • last year

Nope, not in NYC area. Actually surprised that they were that cheap. I would have said closer to 1K per in this area (I am on Eastern L.I.). Might almost be a red flag that it is that low.

  • PRO
    last year

Agreed. Bizarrely low. the low end entry point on that window is typically over $1k these days... $700-800 is pre-pandemic pricing if not even older than that.

Is this an established, reputable company? Okna generally sells direct to vetted dealers, however I believe that there is some limited distribution out there in the northeast where the pick up truck contractor fly by night types can source it.

  • last year

Just got a quote for $2760 on 2 windows of OKNA White 600 Series Double Hung Window with Heat Seal Delux Energy Package / Fiberglass Insulated / Tilt & Clean Feature / Half Screen / U-Value .27 / Air Infiltration Rating .02 + 3x2 grids + extension jamb box replacement (honestly do not understand what that even means)

From what I'm seeing above, this might be on the higher end for a 600 series window? Or maybe I'm looking at my quote all wrong. I would appreciate any guidance as I know this post is quite old.

  • PRO
    last year

Pricing seems very reasonable, particularly given the small size of the project.

  • PRO
    last year

    Agree with @Ultra Windows

Spreading out the mobilization over just two windows will drive the price up a bit.

  • PRO
    last year

+1, only high if comparing to outdated prices. The small qty does drive up the price (some companies have minimums or 3-4 windows), and based on the jamb extension replacement (an added cost in and of itself, this may be a full frame installation quote.

Bottom line, its in the reasonable range in 2024 regardless.

  • last year

Do you think this installed quote is fair in central NJ?

-OKNA 6' Elegante patio door Euro-white installed $3,150

    -OKNA 500 38x60 windows x4 installed $2,950, $737/ea

    Both no-grids

  • PRO
    last year

Not fair...well below market norms on the windows. Door is closer to normal ranges but the windows are low.

  • last year

Since there is no break down so I guess $1,500 labor for door, right? What would be the geography cost range for windows? If the quote is very good, I may consider replace more windows. Thank you!

  • PRO
    last year

    The windows are very low.

  • last year
    last modified: last year

The Okna patio door is priced very low and so are the windows. $3150 were pre covid prices. No reputable company ever breaks down costs, its a package deal to be honest.

What county is that price based in?

  • last year

The quote was provided in Somerset county, NJ. I asked for a price breakdown to door and windows, because patio door is a must and windows could be optional that is why they came up separate.

Also any suggestion for a built-mini blind to the Okna Elegante door? Would it degrease the weather efficiency? I didn't find any discussion about the embedded mini blind in the forum.

  • last year
    last modified: last year

ok, I thought you were in New York although pricing should be similar. Still, $3150 for an Okna patio door is very low and a pre-pandemic price.

  • PRO
    last year

The mini blinds do drop the thermals a bit, but they are still better than about 90% of the doors out there without them.

  • PRO
    last year

Crazy low prices. Not anywhere close to typical.

As far as the blinds, I agree with WoW regarding the efficiency. Slight drop, however if you use them effectively depending on the season (ie: blocking the sun in the summer, letting it in during the winter) you can definitely recoup any loss and possibly more.
