The large hutch is already pretty imposing, I think if you go dark the hutch will overpower the space.

You asked about adding height to the hutch, are you talking about your corner piece? If so, I would put some art on the walls above the corner piece, it will fill up the space nicely.

I am all about painting furniture for a light, bright refresh, but I honestly think that hutch is stunning in its current form. I would not paint that beautiful piece. If you are referring to the bar piece in the corner, I'd actually relocate it against the blue wall in that nook below your artwork. Avoids having the kitty-corner placement and would create a proper bar space. You could even relocate the art, and add some open shelving for wine glasses, etc. above it.

As for drapes, I think a simple white drape with black border could look classic without fighting with the bold statement rug. The below is from William Sonoma. (it's navy, so you'd have find something similar in black to match the rug).

I also like the current finish of your hutch--it adds warmth to the room. Agree on the drapes mentioned above.

Well, it's too bad the hutch isn't a bit larger for this room. Chairs on either side of the hutch could fill out the wall.

What a pretty room! I think the hutch look fine but the inside is a bit dark. I might be tempted to paint the inside a bright Apple green or hot pink, even turquoise! Something to give this room a little fun color!

Maybe some tall thin plants in the corners rather than the chairs?

To me, it’s the rug throwing things off. I think the color/pattern is too loud and heavy-looking in this particular room.

I think a more calm, muted rug, that has similar browns as the china cabinet, really connects it all better, draws the eye up instead of down. It’d be a much easier change. :)

(The mirrors are great and that wall doesn’t need chairs or anything else crowding it.)

I’d change the rug, put a lamp on the bar cabinet, get a decorative tray for the bottles, pull colors or one color from the rug for curtains (or just solid cream), and that’s it.

If you ambitious you could paint it!

Thanks everyone! Went with the bordered curtains and love them. Also love having a lamp on the bar. Not able to change the rug. Wish I could move the bar, but there is no where else to put it. Still on the fence with what to do with the hutch. Will post pictures when finished.
