Which parts of the room do you like? Which do you dislike?

Your picture is a bit lacking in sharpness. Are you sure that those are all real cedar boards? The wood on the left and right walls looks particularly wide to be individual boards.

They are all individual. Opened walls behind them and interior walls don’t even have drywall behind them.

Don’t like that the room is so dark. Also don’t like fireplace. The wall not shown in the picture is also wood.

I like the FP but really those need to go and some drywall installed and what are the floors it is hard to see them.

Floor is cheap vinyl tile done by last homeowner.....they will be changed also.

Sand a small area down it Is probably a lighter shade, you might like. If not paint it. I can’t see pulling it down and replacing with drywall. Unless the exterior wall is not insulated.

I recommend a white wash for both the wall planks and the fireplace.

Congratulations on the purchase - it's a great room - lots of space and love the ceiling height. I'm shocked to hear the flooring is vinyl - it looked to me to be hickory! You have a lot of opportunities including painting the wood - you'd still maintain a rustic feel as the planks have the individual molding. I'd update the fireplace - depending on what you're style is you could white wash it or you could cover with cement board and tile with a modern looking type.

Probably not a lot of help - but without knowing your design style it's kind of hard to judge. I find hiring an interior designer for a couple of hours and bouncing ideas might be a wise investment.

Consider white washing the wood and the fireplace. And adding skylights.
