The trim where? All I see is brick.

I think before painting the brick I would give it a good stub with some brick cleaner and if some of the S white comes off.
Is it paint on the brick? I took a mason chisel to ours and chipped if some of the paint the previous owners dropped on the brick.
What about staining the brick?
I have a very similar brick but I have abit if brown in mine so I did charcoal soffits/Eaves and commercial brown windows.

Forget the brick. Sounds like you need a good counseling session. Do you know why he doesn't want to paint the brick? It could be for a good and understandable reason (like it can be a moisture trap and cause problems down the road). Show us your trim so we can help you with color decision.

Previous Owner had painted the floor-to-ceiling 12’-wide double-sided brick fireplace which separates the den and living room a wimpy beige. Ugh. I had the contractor very lightly sand-wash (less than sand blast) the fireplace on both sides. Now the red brick is exposed, slightly roughed-up, but infinitely better looking than when it was beige. So much better.
Multi-colored skinny brick looks odd to me. Do you know if your brick is painted or are those colors the actual brick?
