No tile switch on hood.!!! If you want different?Match the WOOD for the hood, Or get a big stainless. You have plenty of tile. But no "switching" : ) to another.

I think it looks great. Don't go crazy with the grout. match the grout to the tile. You're just not used to it yet but its a solid choice so don't second guess yourself. Congrats on your new space!

I'm picking up what you're laying down Jan:)! A clean white grout that disappears. What do you think about my hood options?

You either tile as you planned. or you switch that out for a nice big stainless.......Or you re do in WOOD. The staianless would be my preference. Why? You went to the trouble of a panel trim FRIDGE. Probably you wanted the range as the star. You only need so many stars in a show : ) One is generally , best. The stainless is a NON compete with tile, or with anything else. Mark where it goes, and don't tile to ceiling there. .UNLESS you have a logical left end point. Which we can't see. It's a kitchen, not a wet sauna.

I added a photo of the back of the island. I fell in love with the wood pulls I put on my larger drawers. That’s why I was going to do wood for the rest of the knobs.

I would wrap that hood on stainless, or maybe some warm (but not tacky yellow/gold) brass. And just try some warmer bulbs, and that’s that. Once the kitchen is outfitted (toaster on the counter, utensils in a crock, herb in a planter, wooden cheese plate leaning on the backsplash, whatever is your thing) you’ll wonder whatever you were fretting about.

I really like the tile. It does read cooler behind the range than on the window wall due to the lighting. Is it sunlight hitting the range wall, or is rangehood lighting turned on for the photo? If the former, it is a fleeting "problem", as light will shift throughout the day (and you will probably mostly be using the kitchen in the evening when natural light is warmer or you will be relying on indoor lighting, depending on the season). Colorshifts due the changing angle of the sun are inevitable regardless of your tile choice and not really a problem to be fixed. If the rangehood lights are on, you could look at changing the lamp for a lower color temperature bulb with a color closer to your recessed cans.

I agree with Jan on the hood tile question. I think a wooden hood to match your cabinets would look smashing. But if you do tile the hood, I definitely would not switch up the tile.

Sorry, can't agree on pulls.Going to be a cleaning and maintenance nightmare, and honestly? they bear NO relationship to fridge hardware. Too many "Ideas" .........will kill. So...jmho but no.

I appreciate all the suggestions. Stainless hood is off the table just as a matter of personal preference in this particular kitchen. So tile, wood or Sheetrock are my options. For sure the range is the star with faucet and brass pulls as best supporting actors/actresses. Hmmmm I’ve got some things to think about!

WOOD is your answer.. Or sheet rock, and a nice WOOD bottom of the hood trim. A hood like that, needs a lot of "air" around it. : )

All design is EDITING. I think the hood becomes daunting, in tile.

My vote is to use wood or stainless on the hood, and the brass on all the cabinets.

I love how this is coming together. My gut leans towards wood on the hood, but I have been paralyzed for months in finishing my own kitchen, so that take for what it’s worth. :) This is a gorgeous kitchen and I’d love to see it with the artwork up.

😂😬my husbands going to be crazy! He wanted to do wood in the beginning. I wanted Sheetrock. The counter installer said it would be so hard to keep clean and got me thinking about tile. ugh! I hear you on he knobs- will consider!

It's easy to clean and slap on a fresh coat of paint, right? Even all wood is a bit more difficult there, UNLESS you are religious about turning that on well before you begin to cook, and even then grease does get around. But tile? No,.......i wouldn't . Kind of a warmth killer, the very THING you are after, and adds a but more instutional feel, and a bit too much "busy"

the two of you shall have to duke it out : ) Personally? A wrap of stainless in the portion that says durarock, and a band of OAK at the bottom? Would look great and all issues, solved. Nice proportion for the materials as well.

Don't under estimate good ol sheetrock and tri,

Sheetrock would be easy ... you just scrub it regularly and every 2 years you give it a quick coat of paint and it looks brand new again.. The same can't be said for any metal hood that has the potential to be scratched when being cleaned, specially if you have any outside help for cleaning.

The tile read very warm on my computer. It looks great. I think it's easy to freak out mid project. See it through & it will be fine. Looks great.

The kitchen is gorgeous, although I’ve never really understood tiling to the ceiling. More tile on the hood would be way too much. I like the idea of Sheetrock, paint, and wood trim on the bottom.

And, of course, match the grout as closely to the tile color as possible.

A horde of houzzers are seriously envious of your kitchen.

So that's what you DO, Easy peasy.

IMO the hood is overwhelming the way it is - like a huge packing box - and needs to be visually divided in some simple fashion; either copying the wood trim on the cabinet faces or even a plain white ship lap style just to break it up.

I would select a grout color that's compatible with the lighter tones of the cabinetry giving you a subtle design pattern without it jumping out at you.

Is your hardware gold?

I would do the hood wood painted black with the bottom 6" of it in a metal to match cook top either the gold/brass or the stainless steel. Let me see if I can find something like I am talking about.

These hoods are not yours obviously. However this is the idea. Top of your hood black and bottom 6" or so the metal. It would be beautiful with your range/oven and would break up the maple cabinets and add contrast. First two Kitchen photos Credit Christopher Peacock.

Beautiful! I think the tile looks good. For grout I would lean towards a pale grey so that the grout does not "yellow" as it ages. The only thing I might change is lighting. Recently, I found alot of new recessed LED lighting at Home Depot. The ones I purchased actually have a switch so you can change the "color". There are three light colors. This way I was able to choose the light color based on how it made the wall paint and flooring look. I am very happy with the lighting. These lights might be a good option for you.

Heather, the tile is beautiful. I don't have any suggestions on the grout color but would love to see updates when completed. BTW, I love your cabinet choice, especially the finish. Can you tell me more about them? Best of luck to you.

I notice your electric kettle is located under your cabinet. Be sure you pull it out from under the cabinet to use or the steam will damage the wood.

Heather, We have a charcoal range similar to yours with wood grain cabs—we went with the current vogue of a drywalled hood with an eight inch band of wood around the base shown in the pic you posted too. 👍

Kinds1- thank you! They are RTA cabinets from Conestoga and purchased through Cabinet Joint. They are the plain sawn white oak that we finished ourselves using a clear water based finish from Great Finishes. We were quite please with the building process and how well everything went together.

Grout is done! We did 50/50 bright white and Snow White. I’ll post more pics soon- still putting Kitchen back together.

I see white tile behind the stove and pale sage green tile on the far wall. I love the green with your cabinets, but not the white tile. I would use grout as close to the tile color as possible.

We’re making progress! Pendant lights over island are gone- looks so much better and space appears larger. Will try a small pendant over sink. Still waiting on knobs.

Now trying to choose paint for walls, currently SW Neutral Ground and hood., currently primer. I have samples of SW Greek Villa, White Flour, Origami White and Alabaster- any thoughts?

Getting so close! Still need crown, toe kicks/trim and glass in counter cabinet. So thankful we didn’t tile the hood!

LindaHambleton- if we are having company I can put things in the pantry, out of sight. However, i actually use most of what is on the counter daily, so I don’t worry too much when it’s just us. The space is heavily used. I guess I could have staged the photos a little more:)

I think the tile is fine. Personally, I like the contrast of something cool and something warm.
