Honestly you have a very nice kitchen. I think the suggestions above are great- I love those chandeliers and the gold hardware suggested. I think changing the stools is a good choice too.( and I think your granite is nice too. totally timeless in my eyes).

Trying to remake your cabinet doors drawer fronts probably would not be a good use of your time and money. You could look at getting new ones (not difficult if your cabinets are standard sizes, but likely would cost more than you'd expect). I would probably just repaint. Besides a shade of white, a pale olive green might look good with your granite and cream tile.

It would be possible to remove the molding at the tops of the uppers, and build false sections to level them out. Sort of like old west false fronts on buildings. Some simple trim at the joint, and at the top, then paint to match.

If you stick with a white shade on the cabinets, how about painting the island base a darker color, like navy?

I also would change your stools, the light fixture to something simpler, and the pulls.

I doubt you can change the doors to a Shaker style. If you want to change the look, have you considered one of the colors in the granite? Like a medium grey? If you really want to change the style, you would have to buy all new doors and drawer fronts -which is a basic refacing job. Just repainting it as is would work, for sure, but make the above suggested changes in hardware, fixture, etc. It would definitely look “new” with updated hardware.

I really don't think there is any need to change the cabinets if they are in sound shape other than paint. The style you have is classic.

Your kitchen is beautiful. Anything “current” is only current for a little while, until the cabinet industry comes up with something new, which they will call “trendy”. Classic cabinetry does not go out of style. If you must have them painted, select one of the lighter colors found in your granite. Ten years is not “old” in the life of a quality kitchen. Add some art if you have an empty wall or two, and add a few colorful accessories and a nice colorful rug in front of the sink. Maybe window treatments.

I like your kitchen too. If you need to paint, paint a similar/same color, or add a gray from the counter for the island. Change the hardware, light and stool and I think you will feel you have a new kitchen. Maybe change your window treatment too.

The granite looks like either Moon White or River White.

I totally love your counter. It is truly gorgeous! I think the colors you have are just fine. The only suggestion I can add to the feedback above is to see if there is a way to replace that panel above the cooktop. I can't tell from the photo what function it has but it sort of sticks out as too fussy. I'd try to streamline it somehow. If it is covering up a vent fan, maybe replace it with a metal range hood?

Ten years is not old or dated for a kitchen. You are fortunate to have such a nice space in which to work. Enjoy it!

I agree that your kitchen is very nice and certainly not outdated. I would paint the cabinets the same color as they are currently in order to avoid a domino effect in case it throws everything off. Change the lights, stools, hardware, etc, if you feel the need, but REALLY your kitchen is very lovely!

I’m usually all for doing what you want and spending your money how you want no matter the advice given or necessity of it 🤪, but, this is a truly Beautiful kitchen already. I’d stick with cosmetic changes first (light, valance, stools) and necessary repairs and see if that satisfies you. I think gold would look nice in here- you could do hardware and lights in gold to trendy it up a little.

I was thinking of something like this for your ceiling light: drum pendant although in a brass, with brass pulls on the cabinets. More contemporary, but still takes you in a simpler shape direction like you wanted with shaker fronts.

Give the room a lift with a window blind and a much simpler chandelier.

I’d repaint the cabinets at the perimeter the same color but why not paint the island a sagey olive tone to pick up the valance colors?

Granite does like like River White. I wouldn't add taller cabinets. I looks like you have plenty of space & it might look too heavy with them all the way to the ceiling. I would change out the chandelier, the hardware & the stools.

I would change out the light fixture and possibly darken the walls a bit.

I think your kitchen is nice but I do think there is no contrast in the finishes. Everything is pretty close to the same color. Decide what you want to keep (granite?) I think the backsplash is the easiest and cheapest thing to change with a an interesting tile or stone that complements but contrasts. The cabinets would be great white- I wouldn't try to change the profile-that will be expensive. You are right that you have a lot of cabinet heights but it makes sense over the hood.

Changing the profile is what I had in mind (unless you are below average height). If you move the shorter cabinets up, you could use a cup shelf below, and tie it into the corner cabinet. I'd remove the appliance garage in the corner between the sink and cooktop, too.

The cabinets on the sides of the window not being the same height looks off to me (Creative idea though). Taking out the appliance garage is a good idea, but then necessitates getting rid of the backsplash, which is nice and totally classic AND trendy.

You could look into refacing, if you want a shaker style. Going darker on wall paint will make the cream cabinets look whiter.

Repainting the cabinets a lighter cream, the island a contrasting color and getting new stools will really improve the room. It will feel “new” without a lot of expense. And then you can shop for new hardware.

The idea of raising three cabinets to the height of the one with the glass door is brilliant! If you don't raise the glass door cabinet in the corner you could even keep your appliance garage (if you like it). But even if you decide to go garage-free, I bet you could match your backsplash and add on to fill in the newly exposed areas instead of retiling the whole thing. Right now, the backsplash it has the classic painted brick look we don't see often enough in kitchens nowadays -- can't tell what it actually is. But I like that look with everything else you have. Just a little rustic but still sophisticated! Reminds me of France. And that's a good thing!

Since your cabinets are getting repainted, could you possibly flip the doors and use the other sides as your "face" side? You'd just have to fill the hardware holes and re drill new ones...

Using the other side of the door is such a brilliant idea! I love creative people.

If you do move the cabinets up to match in height to the glass door cabinet, I would keep the cabinets on each side of the window the same height though. That under cabinet shelf is a great idea too.

I like the staggered cabinets. Mine are all the same height, and it’s kind of boring.

Thanks to all. At this time, I plan to repaint cabinets

a lighter cream (SW 7008) change hardware (Wayfair Basics), get new bar stools (Pottery Barn), and change light fixture (Harrington Shades of Light). New roman shade will be coming as well...probably a simpler pattern. Still toying with idea about painting walls a different color and/or island a different color.

I second (or third maybe) that your granite is GORGEOUS!

Your kitchen is very attractive but lacks some color. I would change the light fixture to something which lights the island rather than the ceiling, add a piece of art over the stained wood side cabinet, change the window treatment to a Roman shade in a colorful fabric, and perhaps paint the island a contrasting color. Don’t paint the walls above the cabinets a different color because that would accentuate the uneven tops which bother you already. Add a few (3?) colorful accent pieces in a color taken from the new window treatment....a ceramic utensil pot, new kitchen towels and potholders, a rug in front of the sink or prep zone.

A big piece of art over the sideboard would look great (abstract art perhaps). Repaint (if you must) the cabinets a similar color. Contrast the island if you really want change. If you are getting those bar stools and pulls, I'd get something more modern for the island lighting.
