you should be able to find bareroots at the local chains.. they typically have 10 roots for around 4 bucks (walmart/homedepot/etc). check the garden section where they have the other bulbs. just keep in mind that the first year the bareroots don't produce big or much berries..

I get them at my local nursery. A clump of 25 bare root starts for $4.99. And they mature to full, fruit producing plants rapidly.

well, if you want potted berries then you have to pay up, potted fruits/vegetables are expensive everywhere. i suppose there is lots of overhead costs where you can't buy a 6-cell potted for $2 like in the 90s.

maybe try finding someone locally that will either give you their runners for free or for cheap.. otherwise just buy the roots, they will produce the first year, just the berries aren't as large as they are in the second season.

well the Amish group that sells at the local Farmers Mkt said the will open for business April 3. thats still a ways off... I have hoop houses etc and small covers so thats one reason I hate waiting.

I found a seed catalog and they lists bare roots but I haven't messed with bare roots stuff for quite a while esp if thats like the stuff I see In box store in "plastic bags then a "box".

I order from Nourse Nursery and have never been disappointed.

I just ordered some( Indiana Berry) and the lady didn't tell me till I placed my order that they wouldn't ship till April 13th or so. . Im upset I should have cancelled because she should have told me at beginning of order... THat mot a way to do business... Cause by that time I could prob find them from Amish opens earlier than that...

and t they prob won't be bare root. I found some at WW 4 for about $9 in a 1 gal semi fancy "pot" "Expert gardener" brand Thanks for let me vent...

I got a lot from Stark Bros last year. I've been pleased with all the bare root plants (including some blackberry canes) they shipped me last year. Maybe one out of fifty died.
