Yes, I too was pleased when I ordered some that weren't from a large commercial bulb house but a small entrepreneur bulb specialist. They have spread (slowly for me) in two gardens since. If only I could get them to spread more...

I have tried every which way to get this to grow from a corm. And yes I have soaked them in water....still no good.

Yeah, they shouldn't be allowed to dry out (which is why most commercial stock is non-viable). Only the specialists store them right.
Yeah, we haven't had *ANY* of that this year.

When you see the seed pods start to open, scatter them over your fence into the park! I bet that leafy not-perfectly-mintained setting would be perfect for them. I've been scattering for a few seasons now and they're starting to pick the places they like and settle in.

Great idea katob. But I think for now I will sow the seeds on the "tame" side of the fence...at least until I get more spread!

(Given that they spread by seed I would have thought I would have seen more WA by now throughout my garden)

Keep your eyes open in another two weeks, the non-blooming plants and seedlings always sprout a little later than the flowering stalks, so they may yet show this year.

(It porbably doesnt help that I am constantly moving plants, digging holes etc throughout the growing season)

LOL! The ones in the ditch are much smaller than the ones gdinie provided so I’m pretty sure these must be the ones we planted years ago :-)

dbarron, snow gone and the clump has now opened :).

I don't believe mine are as brilliant as that. I think it comes due to higher temperatures, I've noticed they wash out and look watery if it gets hot while they're blooming.

(dbarron, might it look more "brilliant" in part because the surrounding leaf litter is so blah, so washed out?)

That could be part of it...I reviewed several years of photos of mine, and this (this year) is the best color of any of them (a RARE consistently cool extended spring)

I think it's basically comparable to yours?
Note: I believe them to also be taller than normal this year.
