We're working on the floor plan for a house we've purchased and are planning on gutting and completely renovating. We've pretty much laid out the floor plan in a way that we both love and feel we would use every day. But today we just realized that our entrances have a problem.

With this house, it's in the city, so the front street is narrow and all the major parking is in the back with detached garages. We plan on building a garage on the very back of the lot and coming into the house from the back during our day to day.

Suddenly I'm realizing we probably need a mudroom or a space where we can enter the house that isn't the patio door. However, I can't think of a place to put the mudroom that won't sacrifice some other space in the floor plan that we feel is critical, or that won't be awkward or affect the symmetry of the space. The house is also very square (a classic prairie foursquare) and a renovation, not a new construction, so anything out of the dimensions will have to be an addition.
