I will assume you have already found out if you can stack them not all are made to stack. I find it is nicer to have them sxs in a small space to allow a folding area.I have had both there is no other down side for me I am tall so no problem reaching stuff in the dryer for me.

Hi. They are a great space saver. And the look pretty. Just don’t forget wet clean clothes very long in the washer. They start to smell bad. They don’t use as much water as an old school washer. Sometimes, I wanted my clothes to get a good soaking. One of the doors stopped latching and needed repair ( after a few years). They will not function if the doors will not close obviously. Take good care of the doors. We switched back to an old school set when we moved. It’s like most new things... there’s an adjustment period and things to learn.

I have stacked because there is actually no room for side by side. It works just fine. I would prefer side by side and then I could use the tops of the machines for folding.

Pretty much any frontloader washer/dryer pair with controls on the front can be stacked. There are also unitary stacked sets (with both topload and frontload washers) that are built that way and cannot be operated unstacked.

Thank you all, I am able to stack my units and purchased the stacking kit when I bought the set two years ago. I have room for side by side but would like to move a small upright freezer into the utility room and can only accomplish this if I stack the washer/dryer.

I've had stacked for 6 years. Added a closet for them in kitchen so I would no longer have to traipse to the cellar. The washer is low to floor so if bending is a problem it can tough and dryer is high so you need to be able to reach. I am 5'7". My set is Maytag

I love having mine stacked. They were side by side but wasted corner storage space. I am not tall....5’4” on a good day- and find that the dryer is more convenient. I have an Electrolux pair.

I used to have the Speed Queen unitized stack with an access panel behind them for service and water shutoff. So, as dadoes wisely recommends, think that through. That said, I dearly loved having it stacked. I cannot stack in my current home. :-(

We relocated for work and I had to leave my 12x10 utility room; I got a 4x6 utility closet instead. Stackable was the only option if I wanted any other storage. We bought a Frigidaire stackable 7 yrs ago and actually love it. I’m not sure I could go back to side by side. Lol

We've had them both ways and I don't have a strong feeling for one over the other. In our current home I needed to stack them in order to have a large utility sink. While having a folding surface was nice when they were sxs, we use the sink almost daily and would not trade that for a folding surface. I do have to say, servicing stacked units is more of a pain. If I had to choose sxs over having a freezer that I wanted, it would be no question that stacked would be my choice.

We have stacked at work. Shut off valves are on the side wall. Repairman is out at least 2x year to unclog the pump and has no trouble moving the machines away from the back wall. (vet clinic with 6 loads of hairy wet towels/blankets daily)

I don't have a dryer as hang them out to dry- but definitely wouldn't have a stack dryer. if ever in the future it has to be lifted down, it would cause a lot of issues I'd think, however, I love those tall slim ( all in one) kinds, there are several model kinds, like stackable but all in one, the kind with dryer below washer, and washing machines that come with a drying cycle.

I also have chosen to stack mine in the last three houses over the last 15 years and am not tall (5’4”). I feel it works well. Mine are built into cabinetry which is more effort to slide out for repairs or maintenance, but is not a frequent occurrence that my husband and I can’t handle. Stacking allowed for additional under counter cabinetry or space for roller carts, etc.

In my previous home I had my two sets of FLs stacked and did not like it at all. If I would have had a counter top in the room I would not have minded it. I much prefer to be able to take things out of the dryer and fold them and use the appliance top or a counter top, and to have a rod above the machines to hang things. My routine was to take the load out of the dryer to the adjoining family room to fold and that was not ideal for me. It is personal taste, but I like having the ability to do all the laundry activities in the laundry room.

I’ve had extra capacity front loading stacked machines for the last 18 years, we initially did it so we could fit in a laundry room sink. When we moved to our current home over 8 years ago we had the space to not stack them, but I actually preferred to keep them stacked because then junk never accumulates on top of the machines. LOL! (It’s a pet peeve of mine). It IS a little more of a hassle whenever my hubby has had to do any repair work to either of the machines, but that has only happened a little over a handful of times in almost two decades.
