What backsplash should I use?

I recently had this countertop, MSI Calacatta Laza, installed in my kitchen. I absolutely love it! I originally picked out a Carrara marble herringbone backsplash, but I feel like it's going to be a lot of white. Any ideas on a backsplash?

something that relates to the island colors; it is the only grey in the room and looks lonely.....

I think this is probably Carrara and it would look nice in your kitchen. Carrara often has a lot of grey. I think it would be beautiful.

My first thought was a gray tile. Complete Tile makes hand made ones that are gorgeous.

That is one gigantic kitchen! I know you'll enjoy many hours preparing foods with ease in thlat spacious place. If you want to go with some unique colors, check out some of the art tile suppliers or hand-painted options from Walker Zanger, Artistic Tile, Pratt & Lambert, Winchester Tiles, and a few others you might find if you search the Houzz forums for other backsplash posts.

I do not like mixing fake and real stone it never looks right .I would use the gray from the counter for the backspalsh to give a bit of relief from all the white. You could do glass, hand made lots of optiond and the good thing is no white grout.

Thank you everyone for all of your suggestions! It is quite a big kitchen! My husband and I renovated our home and this is all new space. As you can see we still have a way to go, but we’re getting there. I appreciate all of your suggestions. I’m definitely going to look at some of these tiles.

Gorgeous, classy, timeless kitchen. You are so lucky. Obviously you have great taste( or design advice) Anything goes with white. If you like a marble herringbone, go for it. The tile will set the mood, it’s your personality, no wrong answer.

Something like this would look amazing in your kitchen. It’s got some color but still timeless imo.

Hemina, Love that blue-green tile around the window. Can you tell me who makes it?

This is a most popular photo on Houzz, and if you click on "More Info" you'll see many questions and answers. The designer, Fiorella Designs, stated that it's a Walker Zanger tile called "Mizu." The answer was 8 years ago, so they may not still carry it. I'd go to their website and see if it's still available.

Any soft colored tile will go with that kitchen. It’s already gorgeous.

I looked at Ann Sacks -they have a really pretty pale blue/green tile...very pricy. Here’s Mercury Mosaics- they have a few options that have that pale/ethereal/multi tone look.

What is the width of the walking areas on all sides of the island?

pick a favorite color & style and go from there. you are not tied to gray tile. any color will go..

also try FireClay, Ann Sacks, Cle.... the choices are endless. browse through Houzz, Pinterest and other sites and see what u gravitate toward

And this is a link to their Moroccan Mint in the same line:

Hi Lauren. With such a neutral kitchen, you’re going to get lots of individual tile recommendations as in pretty much every post above! We all have our favorites. Its time for inspiration images!

Start googling images of white kitchens with your counters, and study the images you like. Once you have an overall impression of what is beautiful to you, it’s time to start looking for tile samples and bringing them home so you can see them in your space, in your light.

Come back with some inspiration images. We can be much more helpful then!

BTW, my quick search shows that most people who use your counters and have white cabinets, either use the counter surface or white ceramic glazed tile as a bs.

use the island cabinet color as your backsplash color - is it grey? glass grey large subway style tile - glass or opaque to bring the island and counter into it.. do not go with another color - if your island was white you could..

Depending on your tile choice (subway, hex, etc) if you buy single tiles you could use a mix of color (white, gray, blue, to pick up the color of your island cabinets and the gray in the counters). That way it is not all white, you get some interest, but you are also not taking away from your counters (which are soo pretty). Below is an idea- you could use primarily white/gray with the blue as highlight and it would be much more subdued than this. You can also do it more organically so it doesn't look quite so 'patterned'. Another idea I have seen that looks very pretty is to use the same color tile but mix polished and matte finishes.
