Backsplash Help

Hi,

I’m trying to find a backsplash for my kitchen. I’ve attached photos of the one I’m considering, and a photo I found online of this backsplash installed. I also added a couple photos of the rooms that are attached to the kitchen. Please keep in mind we recently painted and I haven’t updated the decor to the new paint colours.

Can I make this backsplash work? I’m looking for something affordable that will add a little colour/interest.

This was another option I was considering.

That doesn’t really go with the counter... imo

    Thanks for the feedback, Lisa.

Do you feel something like the option with the subway tile in the comment above would work better?

Did you select the countertop, or was it already there? It seems out of place with the design direction of your cabinets. Neither one of those options work with the counter you have.

We bought the house 8 years ago and it was already here. We’ve never had a backsplash though. It was previously just a painted wall (Coventry Gray). I have no idea about backsplashes :) and have been trying to find pictures of things I like online, but I don’t really know what will work with what I have.

Did you put the cabinets in, or where they there as well? Can you post a close up picture of the counters?

They were there as well. There has never been a backsplash though. The island in the middle is a dark wood.

I've seen that tile installed but like it better pointing up (you have it sideways in the pic) .

however, w/your busy granite, I'd rather see a solid color if you're going w/a mosaic pattern like that.

your cabs are white, yes? they look blue in one picture.

how about if you did that hive pattern w/a solid color that matches your stone? I can't really get a good idea of what it is.

If you like that herringbone, then do it this type of 2x8 tile

    you like any of these?

Tilebar has this Cadenza tile in Nocturne blue. If you want a deep navy, order a sample of this. They also have white and gray

give us a pic standing straight on looking at the sink and cabs to the left.

give a close up of countertop w/cabinets. and close up pic of what the stone color actually is

love your living space area. do you plan on tiling above the window? If not, I'd paint it the same dark color as your wall

If you can post a close up picture of the counter we may be able to help more. From what I am seeing that countertop does not go with the overall feeling of the cabinets and the overall design. The cabinets are pretty and in a transitional style, while the counters look like they don't belong and seem quite busy. I could be wrong which is why I'd like a close up.

Here are some additional photos. Please ignore the easter eggs :).

Hi Beth! I like the gray one you posted! I think a solid blue might be too much commitment for me...I tend to get bored and change my colours often, which is why I have never had a backsplash! I liked the one in the photo I posted because there were a variety of colours in case I did change paint colours, but I can see now how it is busy with my countertop. I posted some photos of ones I like, but they often have a solid countertop and unfortunately I’m not able to change my countertop any time soon.

Here's a few more options in neutrals

this bronze color from Encore Ceramics would look nice w/your countertop. its the Hex long, luster-bronze glaze

2x10, (Newport in Hibiscus) and a 2.5x8 glass tile. (I'm actually looking at these for my own kitchen. Oceanside tile, Casa collection)

The pearlized backsplash does not go with the counters. Period.

well gosh feliz,, they have it in a matte glass. that one shown is satin, and they have an iridescent.

    the matte would be fine.

koodo, these are the Byzantine tile from Tilebar.com. why don't you browse over there? you get 5 samples for $5.

look at the other neutral tiles in subway ceramic or some of the mosaics.

if you want glass, try Discount Glass Tile Store

I think oceanside has these too. and you can find others who make them. this is more of a bronze color that seems to work w/your stone. and I like the bronze w/your island wood stain too. and bronze and navy work well.

Absolutely, the matte should work. You get the shape but the color is subtle...best of both worlds.

Thanks to everyone for your comments! I’m going to order samples in the suggestions above!

I would use a two inch border of the same material as the counter and leave the rest of the wall painted white or eggshell color . Your counter is very dark and anything I have seen so far is just too confusing for your space . Good luck !

Am leaning towards the plainer tiles suggestions because of the movement in the counter, when sample ordering to consider a simple horizontal tile so you can see it against a more patterned style/ layout

koo, hard to photoshop because the orientation is slanted, (and I'm not that good at this!) but here's two of them

First picture Beth H posted looks good as long as the color works. IMO the second is WAY too busy.

that first one is the Newport 2x10 tile. wayfair, home depot both have it. I believe they have a soft white. that one above is Hibiscus. they also have a gray/green.

The ones you just photoshopped are too white... cream or grey ish would work better

    ok,,then how bout these?

since the stone has a slight green/blue tinge, do you like these jade color tiles? grab some samples

    https://tilebar.com/kent-jade-2-6-x-13-polished-ceramic-tile.html

they also have them in a 3d option. both styles come in gray too.

I kind of like this Carolina Moss in the 2x20's too

    https://tilebar.com/carolina-moss-2x20-polished-ceramic-tile.html

comes in cloud too. and you can set it in the herringbone or the brick off set

    https://tilebar.com/nabi-harlequin-natural-white-ceramic-tile.html

I have a sample of these and think they are very pretty. comes in diff colors.

I'd get a sample of these as well as the others.

    Metro light gray, 100x300, beveled

glazed brick in a stacked pattern

white thassos herringbone mosaic in the 1x4 size with soft gray grout.

oh, and the Newport tiles from up above are also on tilebar. 5 samples for $5
