Lovely rose, lovely photos. There is a distinct style to the Nabonnand roses. I've said before that I never met one of their roses I didn't like. They are the epitome of grace and elegance.

I think you hit the nail on the head, Jeri: the Nabonnands must have had some mystical connection, or possessed some trick of alchemy to create so many classic roses. Or then again it may have just been a good eye and a ruthlessness in culling the ones that didn't meet their standards, lol.

Sam McGredy once said that any seedling of his that showed disease was destroyed immediately, before it could bloom. He didn't want to know what the bloom was, and be seduced by it, if the baggage was disease.

Perhaps the Nabonnands also took that approach.

Or, perhaps, they were just sorcerers.

I think I'll stick to the "sorcerers" theory. It's much more romantic, and just as likely considering the ethereal beauty of their roses.

They likely selected roses in a climate and conditions rather similar to yours, Jeri, for them all to have performed so well for you.

Jeri, Marie Nabonnand is my unicorn rose too!!! I would love to have her someday. Is this something only the Rose society in your neck of the woods has available? I can’t seem to find her anywhere. I recently acquired G. Nabonnand. The sprinkler guy stepped on him breaking all but one cane a few months ago, but he threw out a nice little cane right afterwards. I am sure he will survive as he seems hardy.

Jeri, I love all your selection of roses. I love Nabonnand collection. I always want them but every time i want to order they are sold out. Always ! Guess it is my luck and i have to order before holidays like Mothers day approaching soon. Its been 3 yrs and i still haven't gotten any yet. I was told to try in Oct. by ARE.
