Assuming your hallway is a standard 42" wide, a 14' runner would look best.

I would get a rug made that is a solid that works with the rug on the stairs, but is a solid. The darker grey color in the rug would work.

Unfortunately, with a 3 year old lab who chases my kids and a creaky floor, we want to put a runner down to help with the noise and prevent it from being all scratched up. The runner on the stairs helped so much, so we like to do something upstairs to help too.

CDR Design, our hallway is only 35.5 inches wide. If I get a 14 inch and center it then it will be halfway between two of the bedroom doorways. I thought I read that you should not have it start or end in the middle of a doorway??

If you added a jute runner with a grey border it would suit your stairs but also be simple enough to look good the entire length of hall.

Get some newspaper tape it together and make it the length you think you need look at it and see what you think. It is easy to fold it to a different length IMO the only way to visualize what you need . I do agree the dark gray from the stair runner is probably best.

Thanks for the additional measurements and the doorway issue at the other end. Ruggables.com has 10' washable rugs that are really nice-looking.

In an ideal world, I like edges to be the same all the way around. But, with this being an upper floor rug, you might be more interested in the practical.

What is the length if you eliminate the area in front of the doors at the ends? Presuming it is the 10 feet you mention above, this would work for you.

Maureen, I really like the look of that runner, however, I don't think jute is very comfortable to walk on. This is such a high traffic area for my family, so something softer would definitely be preferred.

CDR Design, yes that area is 10ft. We ordered a runner that was 16 feet and 2'6" wide. Unfortunately, when we layed it out it consumed the entire hallway and look really weird. We definitely want a 27" wide runner like the stairs, but I wasn't sure if the longer length would look better if it wasn't as wide, or if we just do a shorter one and center it between the doorways.

I think you are really going to like something that you can wash. So, I recommend the 10' runners from ruggables.com. My clients really like them.

Or, you can look at Flor.com. These are carpet squares that you can cut to any size you want. If one square gets dirty, you can temporarily remove it and wash it. You can literally take these outside and hose them off. Clients like these also and I have used them in my own home.
