Please remove the window. It has no visual appeal.

3. Get rid of the window, all shutters, horizontal grill in upper sashes (extending the vertical gills to divide the upper sashes in three equal panes), and rocks or stones.

The front looks a bit contrived -- the double gables -- as if the designer did not know what to do with the windows not centered.

I hope the windows shown are wrong as well as the grids don't belong on a double/single hung window. A simple 2,3 or 4 over 1, or a 2 over 2 would complement the house.

The 1st floor windows seem very tall.

Is there a 3rd floor?

If you feel the need for some rock, consider wrapping the foundation, but no rock above. This style of house looks best without it.

We thought the stone was a nice touch since we already removed the window that was on other side. The shutters are gone.

So you are suggesting get rid of the octagon window, and do not replace it with another? You are that against the stone as well? (it would just be on that small wall next to door in porch area)

Stone is a traditional construction material and should be used as such. It is not paint that can be splashed on a wall here or there. PPF. said it well on the stone.

While stone veneer is often treated as wall paper, it is not. Houses looks best, however, if you treat it as if it were real stone. You wouldn't/couldn't build just that section out of stone, so you shouldn't "wallpaper" it in stone.

If you must use stone, the reason it looks good around foundation only is that real stone really can be used that way. That said, I agree with others that this style of house looks great with not stone.

And yes, get rid of the octagon window and don't replace it. You want the focus to be on the front door, not the wall outside the mudroom closet.

Octagon windows are outdated and there are better choices. If you want to keep a window there or break up the blank wall. Try a vertically oriented oval window. Oval Windows on Houzz. If you want to eliminate the window completely, I would agree with the other respondents that it will not have an impact on the style or aesthetics of the house. The window grilles need to be changed. See below for option. Best wishes.

If the front gable of the nested gables only projects a foot or so I would get rid of it.

I like round windows but dislike octagon windows for reasons I don't fully understand but I would never pass up an opportunity to delete one even after it had been installed. I especially dislike the mullions in all of the windows. A window in that location puts the facade out of balance.

If the porch columns are round, they should have entasis (a convex curve perfected by the Greeks and commonly referred to as tapered).

The shutters are narrow and too rustic.

The outside reflects the layout of the inside. If you want a more pleasing exterior, the interior will probably need to change.

This is the house framed. Would you guys till get rid of the octagon window totally, or make it a square window? ( It is in the mudroom closet)

Put it on the left side of your house, but not right in the front.

Left of the door would look good depending on interior layout.
