Does your Rooguchi die back to the ground in CA zone 4-5?

I'm just a bit concerned that my rooguchi is still napping without new shoots emerging from the ground. I think it's still alive but all of my other clems (arabella, piilu, president, Zion, polish spirit) are well on their way. This yr would be its 4th growing season and I pruned it to the ground in April since the old stems had died all the way down. Is it a late starter? I don't remember it to be. Does it normally die back all the way? I've been cutting it to the ground every year much earlier in the spring so maybe that made a difference?

Obviously I'm nowhere near you and this may not be relevant but just wanted to say don't give up on your Rooguchi… I transplanted mine last autumn.. thought it was dead this Spring.. all my other clems are way up, but I just noticed these...

US Z6--my Roguchi is 5' tall at this point. It does die back to the ground but began sprouting a month ago. I'd wait a bit longer for it before giving up.

Good to know it dies back to the ground even in a warmer zone. I was looking forward to a show this yr which could still happen (fingers crossed). It's a fav so I want my baby to thrive. On another note, it is already a bit of a monster (8' last year). It out grew 5' trellis and then did the flop and I had cobble together extra support. Any strategy for keeping rooguchi or clems in general shorter than it wants to be ? I tried pinching last yr but that didn't do much. I was thinking I'll let part of it ramble and try to get the rest to circle the trellis more instead of growing straight up. Any suggestions?
