It is too bad you have to have a backsplash. I like the look of your kitchen as is.

It seems like you are drawn to smaller, mosaic like patterns. I think that is too busy for your beautiful kitchen. I think that stacked white tile would look the best and would enhance the calm and clean feeling of your space. Something like this:

A larger hexagon or shell shaped tile maybe even in (white ) would lend a little detail and remain in keeping with simplicity of your finished space. These are not as tiny as the mosaic types you show but sort of along that theme. I imagine people are ordering samples to be delivered these days.

Thank you very much for your comments.

Alain, would you consider using the same material you used on your counter, as a backsplash?

Another great option for a modern space would be while solid surface or backpainted sheet glass.

Tiny mosaic tiles tend to look busy - I get it if you want something eye catching, but you might want that on a larger scale

yes I had thought about it, but even the thinnest and still quite thick. https://hanstone.ca/product-specifications/

I would say the hexagon dark gray will add nice contrast to the light and wood colors.

So, why not go with your inspiration? I like it. You even know what it is. Don’t worry about what is current or if others think it is busy. Yours has a lot of white which makes it easy on the eye.

The backsplash is the easiest thing for the next owner to change if you are thinking about resale.

Is the rest of the house 'minimal' -- more of this sleek look, and lighting? if the kitchen seems unadorned in comparison, maybe an interesting tile would be ok....

These are too large, but what do ya think, to repeat tiny bit the warmth of the wood? a smaller look than floor's.

Floor or wall ceramic tile with old-world vibe, in gray-beige finish with imitation scuff marks for added charm. Each tile is accented by 4 faux tiles with scoured grout lines.

Mosaic is nice esp. accenting a smaller area. Is amount of grout concern? Waterfall and handles hard edged, so mosaic would 'soften'? would herringbone soften in another, flowy way...

Have to post... I like this....

I somewhat agree with houzzer who said the kitchen is already nice. But seriously, if backsplash could be placed later on -- let us know if you have plans for dining set -- for example if you love red.... that might be enough?

If this room gets hot sun, and say you love blue - could have a soft muted blue tile - I would say that the rest of house, even the exterior matters - is there more of any particular color....

this aqua is too bright I think... anyway, a photo -

Love your kitchen layout ! In my opinion, don’t choose a dark tile . Would interfere with the wood , would Make the room dark. lighten it up with tiles that are light . I would do a 3 x 12 ceramic subway tile in white but find the ones with a texture instead of a flat typical subway tile you see everywhere . I love the stacking on top instead of staggering them. Stacking on top makes it more modern and clean. Go with a grout that’s white . Def can see that happening in this kitchen. Good luck though and have fun :)

Will you be able to post photo of counter up close? then more including cabinets?

Anna, what is the product number on your photo. I like the textured. I have already done a test with flat tiles.

For a purer white, I find that a brilliant white is whiter, and that a matt white comes out gray.

I like stacking, it's true that it's modern. What do you think of this positioning of the tiles.

Here is the picture for vertical positioning.

Everdene, here are photos of the counter, as requested yesterday. Thanks for your help.

Your kitchen is pretty! With similar colors, we chose a silver metallic back painted glass backsplash and it looks great. and is super easy to keep clean
