Choosing a Kitchen Appliance Package

Hello, I would love to know how to best balance function, design, brand and budget when choosing appliances. I know I want blk stainless.

Bosch has some nice budget friendly item yet not a nice gas range which is a must have.

Kitchen Aid has a premium line that is beautiful but blows the budget.

Mix brands to meet budget?

Go for it as it’s my forever home?

Some other blend or direction?

HELP, would appreciate and love your suggestions. Thank you.

The advice you'll see most often on Houzz is to tailor your purchases for each appliance to the quality of the product which you can often determine by researching recent reviews. Brands don't need to match, but in your case with a color issue going on, it might be safer to purchase the same brand to get the same color, and you can look into discount packages for buying together. Beware that black stainless steel is a problematic surface due to adherence issues of the coating used to make the stainless black. There are some companies that do this more reliably than others. Your best approach may be to research the brands that do the best, most durable black coating and go from there, as I think that's going to be your first point of failure with some of the less expensive brands if you are trying to limit the budget.

BlueStar ranges and hoods are a favorite on this forum. Lacanche does ranges in all colors, but these are getting up into the luxury price ranges. There are a lot of things you can do to colorize your appliances, so maybe don't necessarily cross off the idea of doing a panel-ready dishwasher and refrigerator and a custom cabinetry vent hood with insert to get those colors you want. Futuro and Elica do some interesting work with vent hoods that are black.

OP already asked this question last night and got a bunch of replies: https://www.houzz.com/discussions/5910681/choosing-a-kitchen-appliance-package

“BlueStar ranges and hoods are a favorite on this forum.”

Yes, but the OP should be warned that Bluestar ranges are very high-powered, and she will need to have the budget for the powerful hood and ducting requirements for it.

“maybe don't necessarily cross off the idea of doing a panel-ready dishwasher and refrigerator and a custom cabinetry vent hood with insert”

Yes, but it would be helpful to the OP to mention that these features will require an additional $10-20k for the appliance budget.

”Futuro and Elica do some interesting work with vent hoods that are black.”

Yes, but this advice should be accompanied by the advice that Futuro and Elica are known for their hood designs, but functionally they would fall short if the OP has a range with a lot of btus like the Bluestar, Wolf, or other pro-style ranges.

It depends on your budget, the size of your family and what is important to you. For me I fell in love with the more industrial straight handle (no curved handles) so that limited me to a few brands, I went with what was in my price range with the best reviews. GE Cafe range, dishwasher and hood (and fridge but that went in the garage since it came free with an appliance package and wasn't counter depth), Kitchenaid for the counter depth fridge and Bosch for the microwave.

Opps sorry for two posts. It was my first discussion and it kept failing in the app. New-bee. Thank you for all the extremely helpful advice. Amazing

If you mix brands be very careful with black stainless. I looked at it and the difference between brands was very noticeable. If possible see the different brands in same showroom and lighting. Good luck

Agree with @chiflipper. I would definitely use caution purchasing these trendy colors. Further, not all whites are created equal, so use caution there as well. Traditional stainless across different brands should be fine. I would advise against purchasing a suite of kitchen appliances across one brand. Having completed 2 different complete kitchen remodels, I would suggest visiting a local appliance store and get an education on what is out on the market. From there, decide what is in your budget and what you like best about each appliance.

Another thing to consider many manufacturers off bundles with major rebates. I purchased Bosch benchmark gas range, 800 series dishwasher and refrigerator along with convection microwave. The rebates more then covered the of the dishwasher and most of the cost of the microwave. Many of the manufacturers have these rebate programs e.g. KitchenAid, GE etc. Also I purchased the products over a two month period which fell within the rebate time (not required to buy all at once). This is something to check out. As an FYI I was not originally considering Bosch for the refrigerator but it turned out to be a good decision. Food lasting longer especially fruits and vegetables in the special drawers. Also seeing this in the deli/meat drawer. I’ve had these appliances 2 years. Good luck.
