Some ground cherries take a long time to germinate, so don't give up on them. I received some golden ground cherry seeds from a group that is doing research on them, and was told to allow a month! Mine germinated in two weeks.....

Just to make an unasked for side comment. Plant your radish seeds in the ground outside, no good reason to start radish seeds inside, the radishes may not transplant well and might look deformed. Radishes can grow well in cooler weather, and small radishes grow very quickly in a month.

I bought a package of ground cherry seeds and planted 12 to start indoors. 2 months ago. Only three came up and they have taken 5 weeks to get two true leaves Under full spectrum led grow lights. I fully expect them to take off in the garden Strange that out of 12 the three that came up are all on the same side, but I don’t know what may have caused it Good luck!

Bethany...I planted ground cherry from seed 3 years ago, and they did okay, but didn't get a lot of growth like I would have expected.....until this year..they have just exploded into huge monsters! The old saying about perennials..."the first year they sleep, the second year they creep, the third year they leap" comes to mind ! Just a heads up...they take a while from seed. I planted the variety that's supposed to taste like pineapple..name escapes me right now..but I expect lots of fruit this year.

I had a hard time germinating ground cherries to the point where I called the company I bought seed from. They advised that ideal germination temperatures were 75-85F, much warmer than room temperature. they also said to barely cover the seeds with soil - just a little bit, 1/8 inch max.

I put a heating pad under my tray and had seedlings come up within a week. they are tiny and take a while to get going.

The good news is that once you get a good crop, they will volunteer in your garden and you can just transplant those seedlings to where you want them. they are much better at planting themselves than we are.
