Definitely the hosta, maybe the bleeding heart?

we just froze here Friday night, hostas and lilies were hardest hit as well as ferns, roses, and the bleeding hearts. I was saddest about all my potatoes, they look as bad as the hosta.

Oh, the phlox, bulbs, and clematis were fine.

I would think that the bulbs would be good as they often are coming up under snow. I agree, definitely hosta. I tried to cover my large bleeding heart but it is so big, I don’t have anything to cover it with. After the freeze Friday night, it still looks good. We have another night of frost advisory tonight so I hope it makes it through. My clematis are just about 5-6 inches, I didn’t cover them because I ran out of pots. If yours are on a a trellis, maybe lying a sheet against them and fastening it so it stays up would work. Good luck!!

My Bleeding Hearts and Ferns took a big hit Friday night with 25 degree temps. The tops of all the ferns are all black and the Bleeding Hearts are all bent over. There is no way I could cover them.

None of my flowering plants seemed to object to the 22 degree temp but despite covering them up, my squash and melon sure did :(

Thank you everyone - it only went down to 40. All that work for nothing. The excuse the weatherman gave for being so far off is cloud cover. They changed tonight's forecast to a low of 34. Phew.

40?! Ill take that any day these days. We already had a -5C/24F last week and tonight will be -3C/26F :(.

I spotted those lovely Anemones but I assumed they were Anemone sylvestris. I've never seen A nemorosa so thick and sturdy.

yuck. 24F and 26... I hope your Japanese maples haven't done much yet.

You are correct floral_uk. They are A. sylvestris. I forgot what they were and just did a quick google search for one that looked like it. I went and checked the tag. So much for the precision of using scientific names. They are only precise when you use the right one.

Our forecast is for 13 degrees tonight.

OK 13 is cold. But have you had summer temps for weeks so that everything is waaay advanced? That's what I'm facing.

That is a crazy cold rose3. (But having said that you are in a zone 3 it appears so you should be used to it ;). If I can ask where are you located?

steve duggins, I love A. sylvestris. I have 'Madonna' but I think unusually I can't get mine to spread. It has barely held its own for the past 4 years :(.

I have one clump that is spreading and one clump that is not spreading (yet).

Well there was ice in the birdbath this morning so covering last night was worth it. I have some frost damage on a few things but the bulk of the garden is in good shape. Looks like we are out of the woods. I hope the rest of you come out of this OK.
