IMO it only looks bare because next to it are the drapery rods and drapes. Thee really is nothing to put there exxcept the same drapes and rods and you really have no space for stack back on the left. BTW your DR rug is too small.

Not a pro but I agree that that space doesn't need anything. In your case less is more.

I think it looks fine too but if. you want something I'd add a (live) plant in the corner next to the sliding door. It could soften that area a bit without feeling cluttered. I, too, disliked the dead space above my patio door—despite hearing from all my friends that it looked good bare. I found my solution in the form of a metal wall hanging like the one pictured below. Everybody loves it (especially me) and I am very happy with the outcome.

The space is fine with or without. If you have or find something you love that fits there, go for it. Don’t go out and buy something you don’t love just to fill the space.
