It looks great from here. I think fairy ring is a natural process and comes with age and some hostas more prone to it than others. I've had August Moon in the same place for twelve years and has the fairy ring quite extensive. When it unfurls it fills in quite nice and you'd never know it.

I do have a couple that should be divided because they no longer fill in, namely Holy Mole and Hadspen Blue. They both are competing with the dreaded Maple tree roots.

I planted Lunar Orbit into the middle of my August Moon fairy ring. Lunar Orbit is a little behind AM so far. I'm hoping it catches up. Its hard to see, but there's four eyes of LO in the middle (only 2 visible). (Note the wheelbarrow I used to protect these from frost).

I don't do anything with all my fairy rings. I have a lot. My hostas have been in the ground a long time so some plants just do the fairy ring thing. The leaves fill in as they fluff out, and no one can tell there's a fairy ring by mid-May. I'm lazy and it seems like a lot of trouble to dig them up and put them back in the ground when they just grow as happy as can be without any fuss. Here's one in stages. The last image was taken today, mid-May.

i found.. in my sand.. that if i did NOT bare root ... that the pot sized gob of peat.. would basically go bone dry ... the sand wicking moisture out of it in august ... and the plants.. if vigorous enough.. would grow out to the sides.. creating the ring ....but if not.. they would die ...

id be curious.. once it finishes growing to height ... if you go look in there.. and see if the ring is basically pot sized ...

this is why you should never amend a planting hole.. and plant in native soil.. for all trees.. shrubs... etc ... if there is to much diversity between the soil.. and the media.. watering problems may ensue ... [yeah.. yeah.. i said never.. get over it...]

of course.. if your soil so great.. that it isnt all that much different from the media.. then it doesnt matter for you ...

I am glad to see why I never dug this out and replanted. It will be plenty big enough for the space it is in and still unfurling and going to be hanging over our sidewalk . I tend to plant way too close and have had to remove a bunch from here last season and may have to move more again. One thing about close planting, the weeds get hid
