wood table top - diy help

I got this table from wayfair and I’d like to make a 2 inch thick table top to make a piece of furniture similar to this. What kinda of wood would you recommend I get?

Plywood? Particle board?

A ring-porous wood like oak or ash. Plywood or solid is your choice depending upon your access to suppliers, skill level and equipment. If you use sheet goods, you'll have to edge-band it to hide the inner plies.

This is stained dark, then a light colored glaze applied to highlight the grain lines. Since you are new at this, run trials until you get the look you want before committing to your furniture piece.

I recommend yellow pine 2x lumber. Use brass and steel brushs on power tool to create uneven surface.

I have made tables from old doors. Do you plan to apply a veneer?

It looks like cerused oak to me (as stated above by byhammerandhand). Eventually I always come to regret particle board in furniture, so I would stick with solid wood (in which case you will need to glue boards together) or plywood.

I agree that 2" thick is going to be monster heavy, and probably overkill. One problem with particle board is if it gets wet for any period of time, it irreversibly swells. And it's heavy, too. A 4x8 sheet of 3/4" weighs around 90 lb.

The frame completly inclosing table top in picture is dead give away that surface is man made,likly with mdf underneath. Considering the amount of work required to replicate,I just can't see it as worthwhile.
