I say go with it. Blue and grey are excellent colors for a boy. Get a border that complements the two colors and add wood floor boards to accent the trim around the window. Wha-lah! You've got magic. This worked for me in my Temecula home. The crib and wood trim matched (thank God) so it tuned out well. Good luck!

The grey wall is the accent wall. The 3 other walls is the blue you see in the picture.

I can always send back the furniture and choose a different color, but we are due in less than 8 weeks!

This will be beautiful when it's finished! You are staring at two bare walls. When drapes are up and cover a lot of the wood trim, you won't even notice. And they don't have to be matchy match anyway. There are so many other decorations, ie. wall hangings, picture frames, etc. that will draw attention elsewhere. You can bring in other two tone wooden pieces that bring everything together. Congrats on your new baby boy, the room will turn out great. Enjoy these last few weeks and keep us updated!

I agree with phoebe sitter.... Orange accent, or green. Great colors as your boy gets older... Gets into sports, cars, monsters, alphabet, dinosaurs.....

Love the idea of orange!! Would have never thought of it. It could tie the knot between the wood trim color and the wall colors. Will it still look good with the expresso furniture?

Love your idea about the green too Tammy. The idea of colors that our son can grow with was my exact line of thinking. Of course my husband is in absolute agreement with this part! LOL!!! His thought is: once he finishes this, he will never have to do it again. But I love him dearly ;))

If you put a padded valence over the top of the window frame and hang curtains of the same fabric, the color of the window frame will be all but eliminated.

I think your colours are lovely, I think you should paint the trim white and have white furniture as well. Hope this helps!

Yes!!! I'm not a big fan of that color of wood trim. But it is original to this 1910 house and would like to preserve its historical charm, all while updating.

If the room is not huge the white furniture and will keep it light and airy. Or possibly and off white instead?

Painting the trim white, I completely agree. The only problem is at the moment we are running out of time and neither my husband and I have the knowledge or experience to refinish trim. It's original to this 1910 victorian home and I don't have the heart to touch it. The house still has many original victorian features that today you cannot match the craftsmen ship and would absolutely hate to destroy or improve it unless I'm a professional, which I'm not.

These walls are also plaster which is a nightmare to work with if I would ever want to tear out the trim and replace it completely.

You may be able to be able to a painter that is near you that can do antiques/old features. We are luck enough to have one locally but you might have to look around, we had to search high and low to find ours.

The lady before us did paint over some of the trim in a few other rooms and you can tell she did the job! They are runs along the trim which just looks sloppy.

I live in a Georgian terrace with lots of original features some of which we did ourselves, as I think it is always better to recycle than rip out, and as you said anyway it would be a nightmare.

I think you are going to love the way this turns out. Blue and gray with fresh crisp white accents. Clean and will brighten the room. Get some furry bunnies and trim out a white linen lamp shade in the blue / gray.

I'm afraid the trim will have to be a future project. Although baby is due in 8 weeks, he is showing signs of being earlier. We have at best 6 weeks left and I still need to order and have the carpet installed.

But yes white trim would be ideal and my first choice if I had more time.

I only have 1 piece of advice re decorating a baby's room - choose practical first. As soon as my sons could stand or pull themselves up holding onto crib rail, I needed to take down all wall art above the crib and the change table, otherwise they would take it down (on) themselves! Same with items on open lower shelves on bookcases or change tables - no fun cleaning up vaseline or powder or whatever that got spread around the room by your crawler (and that could be as soon as 6 months). So pretty up the room however you like - just don't be surprised if you need to rearrange once your child starts moving on his or her own.
