linnea -- May I recommend that you check out Lee Valley Tools? They offer two sizes of well-made border forks: A) 45" long, 11 x 7 inch head, and: B) 44" long, 8.5 x 5.5 inch head.

Mine is a stainless steel Spear and Jackson. It's served me well for at least thirty years. I have a matching spade which is also very handy.

Are Spear and Jackson still made in England? I read a review on Amazon saying they are now made in China. I have now looked on various sites selling them and can find no information on where they are actually made now.

Unless Sheffield, Yorkshire has been relocated to China, they are still made in the UK and have been since 1760! The company is a subsidiary of a Hong Kong based holding company and does have manufacturing facilities in several other countries but nothing with a Spear and Jackson label is manufactured in China.

You never know when people write reviews on Amazon if they are even reviewing the right product.

Some people think that when 'China' is associated with any product, it means it is made in China. Ownership does not necessarily translate to foreign manufacture. I hate to tell you how much US manufacturing - done here in this country - is owned by Chinese companies. About $120 billion dollars worth at most recent report (2016). Could be a lot higher by now.
