Garden_ho, your yard looks just wonderful! I love your planting choices! I am interested to know in both pictures, what hosta is next to what looks like a peony to me. I am trying to ID one that looks like that. I did a post about it yesterday.

Okay, I’m officially obsessed and I need to know what things are.

What’s the bright green thing that kind of looks like wider grass? I see it in a lot of gardens but I’ve never got an ID.

Are the light purple things phlox?

What are the clumps of green leaves with the prominent center vein?

The white looks like candy tufts (maybe?) to me. Do you mix annuals and perennials?

I spy corals bells, geranium, and peony too! So pretty! (Sorry for all the questions, looking to add some color to my very green hosta garden!)

The grass is Hakonechloa macra 'Aureola’ Aka Japanese forest grass.

You are correct on the creeping phlox and candytuft.

The dark veined plant is bloody dock...what a name eh? Lol!

...now I wonder if you mean the veined plants in the first pic or Single plant in the last pic?

Yep, the bloody dock was the one I was referring to. It’s so interesting looking, but that name!

No annuals?! How is it so colorful?! I assume that’s a shady area with the hostas but I have nothing but Mac hydrangeas, astilbe, and hostas growing in my shade garden. My garden is all green this time of year. :(

Now that I know there aren’t any annuals... darker purple, tiny flowered plant bottom of the very last pic? :D

Yes I’d never seen bloody dock before, it was so different...I just had to try it. I was leery of it surviving our winter, but they came back beautifully.

The bed is part shade. There is a monster silver maple about 4 feet away so it gets dappled sunlight. It still amazes me things do so well near that thirsty beast.

My beds would be all green also without these colourful spring ground covers. They can be a lot of work though as they need to be trimmed back after blooming to look their best. Then they stay a nice neat evergreen clump for the rest of the season. It’s not bad if you just have a few but...I have tons of them...

The dark purple is another ground cover called Aubrieta/rockcress. Love this one too as it almost glows.

Can not get over second pic. How steep is that hosta bed? And mulch stays in??.?
