Replacement for 40 inch range

last modified: 6 years ago

My mom's 1952 O'Keeffe & Merritt Stove stopped working. We have had it looked at and been told that the repair would be very expensive and no guarantee that it would work. The stove looks to be 38 and 3/4 inch wide. Unfortunately the just is not enough money in the budge for a full kitchen remodel. From what I can tell we have two options

1. Get a 36 inch stove

  • Pros for this idea: cheaper, possibly easier
  • Cons for this idea: it may look weird as there will be a gap between the stove and the cabinets (If we go with this option does anyone have any ideas on how to fill in this gap???)

2. Get a 40 inch stove like an Ilve

  • Pros: these stoves are beautiful
  • Cons: more expensive, we would have to remove the filler strips on either side of the current stove and some how cut the granite back slightly on each side of the stove, the internal size of the Ilve ovens is pretty small ( the bigger oven is 15.35" wide x 11.42" high x 14.17 inch deep)

We are so torn on what to do. Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated
