The elevation drawings are lifeless and show a view you will never see in real life. This is the result of the unimaginative use of 2D black & white CAD with boring infill patterns. This is no way to design a house.

What are all the little windows for on the second floor?

The low sloped addition roof is at odds with the steep roof of the original house. There is no attempt to reconcile these forms.

Siding will not fix a big plain box with random windows. Limited money should not limit the design, the designer limits the design.

Alright guys...so the home we are building in 1.5 weeks is ugly.

We do not have a designer, but rather my spouse has been designing the inside for the past year based off of what we need, what we already have in our very strange, constrained layout, and based off his love of Christopher Alexander. I agree the architect sketches left much to be desired, but they were a budget necessity item. My spouse built the inside in SketchUp, so we have a 3D model there.

The new addition has a garage, workout space, climbing wall, workshop, tornado shelter, and part of the new master bathroom juts out into it. The abundance of windows is for an abundance of light. The shape was to maximize the space in order to fit everything, particularly the climbing wall as far as height goes. The slope of the addition mimics the top slope of the 3 windows.

Is there any constructive advice as to what can be done at this point?

Funny, I figured out that the windows were not placed randomly. I think you are building a simple, utilitarian addition and should stick with just the horizontal siding. Landscaping will soften the look, too. If you want to increase its charm, upgrade the garage doors. But your front door and porch are so cute, I would probably emphasize that part of the house.

Thank you, fissfiss, I truly appreciate the helpful feedback. I will stick with just the clapboard. We do have trees all around the new addition and plan to add even more landscaping. I was planning on going with a more attractive garage door as well, so I'll focus on trying to pick out a good door instead of worrying about siding.

I agree just keep it simple. It will be great.
