Castor bean help

I was given a few seeds of a green castor bean plant and I planted 2 and one came up about a month ago or less. And yes I do know that it’s extremely poisonous to humans and animals. It is now about 1-2 feet tall but I’m noticing some of the lower leaves are turning a light green color and wilting and dying a bit. Is this normal? I’ve been Out of town for 12 days and we didn’t get any rain here and I don’t think anyone watered it which I’m surprised it even lived. Could that be the cause or could it be lack of nutrients. I fertilized it a week or so before We set off on our trip. It has flowers that began blooming two days ago. Any tips on how to care for them would be more than helpful since I’ve never grown one before thanks.
