Hello Everybody,

All my life, I've had spearmint growing everywhere I lived in California. That slightly fuzzy, emerald green standby, with the rounded oval leaves. In the accompanying photo, it's labeled "Spearmint 1". But last year, I wanted to start some spearmint in another place and bought a 4" start labeled just "Spearmint" Mentha Spicata, and it has really taken off, but it is definitely not the spearmint I've always known. It's not fuzzy, the leaves are more of an apple green, and they are more pointed than rounded. The veining and texture of the leaves is different.

It's not peppermint (I grow a big patch of that and know it well), nor does it have some kind of different fragrance like an apple mint or something like that. What can it be? Are there different varieties of spearmint? The "odd" spearmint is labled "2" in the photo.
