oknoplast windows

last modified: 5 years ago

Does anybody have any experience with Oknoplast windows? My current contract has Marvin Essential priced out (all casement and fixed windows), and the home will be modern. It is located in Chicago, and my contractor has said he can use Oknoplast, which has a local showroom, for the same price as the Marvin. I have seen them on buildings around the Chicago area, but am having trouble finding any reviews anywhere about them. Anybody have any thoughts? https://oknoplast.com/

I do not know anything about them. Have heard the name a time or two. Why does he think these would be a better window for your home?

I don't know that he does, he just presented them as another option that he has worked with and liked. I had gotten a quote from Zolla, and he said Oknoplast is another euro pvc company, but with a showroom in Chicago and without the lead time and customer service issues related to buying from a European company

Why not look at some of the more common top tiered vinyl windows?

    No reason- any suggestions?

I would think they might cost less, Nothing against Oknoplast, but have never heard of them and not much info on them.

Any suggestions for some alternatives that you like?

are you looking for tilt/turn windows?

they are all either casement or fixed, but I don't see why you couldn't swap in tilt/turn for casement?

Reason not to are typically cost, and what to use for window treatments,or just preferring one over the other.

would you expect the brands you mentioned to be similar to each other in cost? Is 50k a reasonable guesstimate for this window schedule in those windows? My current price includes a 206" x 102" lift and slide or tri-fold door and 2 3'x9'6" patio doors

the oknoplast website claims Uw of 1 w/m2k. That is extremely low right? Something like .17 U-factor as compared to .3 for Marvin Essential? Or are none of those numbers that meaningful in real life?

European windows are tested for energy performance differently than are windows in North America. While it's easy to convert from European metric to NFRC imperial, you can't directly compare the performance numbers, they aren't the same.

Unfortunately some European window companies do run the conversion between metric and imperial and compare the results to NFRC performance numbers despite the differences.

so is there anything to be done to get apples to apples comparisons? any reason the Europeans don't test as strictly (if I am thanking about that correctly)?

I found the NFRC numbers here, which I think confirm what you were saying about not being able to simply translate the European numbers in to American units: http://search.nfrc.org/search/cpd/cpd_search_detail.aspx?cpdnum=OKN-K-1

My quote for these windows is coming in roughly 40% less than Marvin Ultimate, and that is if I go with a bifold door with Marvin vs a lift and slide with Oknoplast. Oknoplast warranty is 10 years for everything. Any thoughts would be appreciated!

I guess some of their fixed windows do get down to a .16 http://search.nfrc.org/search/cpd/cpd_search_detail.aspx?cpdnum=OKN-K-4

Fixed windows typically are a bit lower, and vinyl with foam filled frames are usually better thermally than a wood window. 0.16 is a good number and most foam filled triple panes with the right or similar glass package are similar. Marvin Ultimates are on the spendy side and you might want use some of there other lines for comparison. I would also look at some of the other numbers such as solar heat gain, visual transmittance, condensation resistance, ect. Most are not familiar with them and there is very little information on them besides advertising , I couldn’t find any and typically I can even for european companies.

they said the marvin essential wouldn't work because some of my windows are too big, not sure if that makes sense or not?

It makes sense to degree, but I think I would compare an American made quality vinyl with a proven track record to a European vinyl Vs a higher end wood window.

just curious, Did you end up going with Oknoplast? I am looking for the modern narrow frame windows (a lot of them are direct set) and trapezoid shaped and having hard time finding US made

I did end up going with oknoplast, will have to let you know how it goes, delivery in 8 weeks

do you mind sharing what the prices were for oknoplast and did you go white or different colors?

I would love an update on your oknoplast experience now that they are installed. Anything to report?

We’re considering oknoplast for windows and doors in a new home and would appreciate any feedback or thoughts in how it went?

I bought two Oknoplast doors off Craigslist (I want to say I paid $200 each) from a guy who was using Oknoplast windows and doors in his cabin in Park City Utah. The doors, somehow, tilt open. I haven’t experienced it yet as I’m still in the build process. They have a sturdy feel for being vinyl. They remind me more of a composite feel versus a vinyl window. Im framing the house with CMU block on concrete slab on grade. So far we’ve put one of the door frames into the block. I haven’t had much luck finding information on Oknoplast, so I’ll be sure to post pics once we are done.

Side note: my first impression is that I really like the modern and clean look of the doors I have no idea the cost but if they’re not much more than vinyl, I would do another house using all Oknoplast.

We are the dealer of Oknoplast. These windows are UPVC which makes it much more sturdy and durable. People when they see and touch the windows can not believe its PVC.

It's comparable to aluminum quality for much less. Windows performance is mostly in air leakage where Oknoplast has 6 points of locking. Triple glazing is commonly used at 10% more cost. Performance is much, much better. We use it in commercial and residential buildings.

If you have any questions regarding European windows please send email markb@clearvistawindows.com or visit our website www.clearvistawindows.com

Ben could you provide a review of your Oknoplast windows please now that they are installed. I am building a home and would very much value your review. My decision needs to be made rather soon. Thank you.

Ben: Im in the same building phase as Michelle above and would also greatly appreciate an honest owner review. Rick

I don't have any complaints with the windows

An older post, but what does "These windows are UPVC which makes it much more sturdy and durable." mean? More durable than what?

My wife and I are seriously thinking about going in this direction (to use Oknoplast) for all our windows. We want to replace all double hung with tilt and turn as well as sliding doors. I’ve spent a lot of time in Europe and it’s about time til and turn windows become “a thing” here stateside. I’m hoping Oknoplast’s quality is what they say it is.

I spent 2.5 hrs yesterday at dealer Laurel Windows-Brevard NC for my Asheville NC modern build, and was very pleased in the showroom demo’ing all the Ocnoplast trim and tilt windows and with the owners technical knowledge. Smooth and sturdy open/close/tilt, beefy, steel reinforced pvc casings with a thin metal over the pvc, Im going with them. 17 windows, various sizes. All window sizes are custom.

Their doors are really sweet but at approx $2300/door I need to keep shopping doors

How much are you paying per window approximately?

All my windows are the Pixel Series, with int black/ext black: in inches

    Swing and tilt:
    32-60, 800.00
    32-54, 750.00
    32-66, 846.00
    54-64, 1116.00

    Fixed:
    24-32, 265.00
    24-96, 797.00
    24-64, 531.00
    32-54, 518.00

Keep in mind furniture placement, tall kitchen faucet, and window treatments.

The 1 lever handle per window operates both the swing and tilt modes. Pretty slick…and no rotating cranks to break over time!

Thank you Rick for the in-depth info here! Window treatment ideas are the next hurdle for us to look into.

Hi we are looking into using Oknoplast blk interior and exterior. We have been told that the Black color outside will breakdown over time and the warrenty expires in 10 years. Does anyone know how long this company has been selling in the US? You can’t beat the cost but that makes me wonder. Does anyone know the difference between PVC, UPVC and Vinyl? Any one have these windows for 8+ years?

We are thinking about Oknoplast for new constrution. Does anyone know the difference between PVC, UPVC and Vinyl? Has anyone had these windows for 8 + years? i’ve been told the heat will break down the black finish over time. We have been told the warrenty is 10 years and after that if the exterior peels oh well replace the window

Although there are different "grades" of the vinyl used in window construction, UPVC stands for unplasticized polyvinyl chloride, and all vinyl windows, no matter where they originate, are built using unplasticized vinyl.

uPVC, PVC, and vinyl, when discussing windows. are the same thing.

While no vinyl windows will last forever, I chose my Oknoplast package of 17 black/black windows for my 2023 Asheville NC small new build based on their 27 years in biz, and being Europes largest manufacture cranking out 1.5 m windows annually. My local dealer installed the windows, zero issues. Time will tell…

How long have you had them? How do you like the way they open inside? do you mainly use the tilt feature? i have beds and couches against the walls/ windows

Installation was 5/2023, getting thru the inswing issue was the biggest issue, we strategically went room by room deciding left or right swing or non-opening. Yes the tilt in feature is what we’re mostly using especially useful at night and when not home…for security purposes. We did buy the $25 ‘brake arm ‘ for the kitchen window swing so that any guest cannot slam the sashe into our tall kitchen sink faucet.

Next step is to buy 3 window blinds that attach at top and bottom of the sashe….so that we have bedroom night privacy with windows in in-swing position.

    Pics attached

  • last month

Do their windows ever open to the outside or can tilt and turn only open to inside?

  • last month

Tilt & Turns typically open at the top so you would not want them to open out because they would catch rain or anything else falling down if they were left open.

  • last month

When opening out I’m referring to when the open vertically at 90 degrees.

  • last month

A window that swings open outward can't tilt open inward without some very questionable engineering and structural design choices.

I am not aware of any tilt-turn that swings outward and would be very surprised to find out there was one that did.

However, I never say never because somewhere there might be someone offering an exception to the norm.
