Kith Cabinets Review

last modified: 6 years ago

We are remodeling our kitchen and after researching, decided to go with a local designer who recommended Kith cabinets. We loved the look/style and they appeared to be great quality. The standard lead time for a Kith delivery is 6 weeks, so when our shipment arrived, we were thrilled. Understanding that there sometimes may be one or two imperfections in cabinet orders, we were shocked that 7/19 cabinets were damaged or unacceptable quality. We called our kitchen designer who was in contact with a regional Kith employee, they asked if it was possible to fix the broken cabinets ourselves or have on site repairs. We were shocked after making a $18,000 purchase we the customer was to bear the burden. Our kitchen designer came to the house and assessed the damage to order replacements, letting us know that it would be about a 4 week lead time for the replacement cabinets to ship from the warehouse. We were disappointed that our kitchen reno would now be delayed. After about 3 weeks, we received a call from Kith (first time hearing from them) saying they were sorry and that the replacement cabinets from the factory didn't pass their quality assurance test and that they were going to have to start the process all over again... we are still living without a kitchen and still don't have answers on when we will receive our cabinets. The most frustrating part is Kith doesn't seem to have any sense of urgency to correct the issue. We understand that things happen logistically and maybe they were broken in the delivery truck, but some of the issues were because of poor manufacturing. Cabinets we received included defects such as missing fasteners in plywood box , cracked face frames, stripped hardware and missing/uneven paint. it has been almost 3 months since our order was placed, We still don't know when we will receive the rest of our cabinets (which is holding up the completion of our kitchen). My father in law is a contractor and has been installing kitchen cabinets for over 30 years and he said he has never seen cabinets this bad before. The ONLY upside is the cabinets that weren't damaged are very nice looking. We do have to make some repairs on the ones we kept, but at this point, we have to work with what we have.

You’ve got major install issues too. Did no one with that company bring a pack of shims? Some of the issues are going to be attributable to them being racked out of square and putting stress on them. But a large majority look like the truck was in an accident.

@User the damaged cabinets were never installed... they were just placed where they should go to see what the design would look like.

I am really sorry to see this- we are at the stage of cabinet install and we did have one glitch- the upper corner cabinet was the wrong size-----so the uppers can't be installed until we get the right sized one. Aggravating as there is just so much you can do without the uppers installed, but honestly all the cabinets were in perfect condition.

I hope things get squared away for you.

oh hell no. I'm w/Design Girl. I would cancel that order and the KD and start over. Or, have her return all of them and go w/another company. i've never even heard of these guys.

For 18K you could have had custom built cabinets, solid wood, by a really good carpenter.

For 18K, those cabinets look like absolute crap. I'm sorry, but you're paying far too much for those. I"m looking at the quality of the paint job and its horrible.

(btw, that 18K includes her percentage too. I can guarantee you those are not 18K cabinets)

I've actually installed pre-fab all wood cabinets made in china for 3K that look far better than those.

Sorry, but that amount of money, you should not be accepting those. any of them

    what's your contract say?

I would never accept those cabinets in the shape they are in, and you shouldn’t either. But you let them put them in your house, I would have started having them opened outside once I got an idea there was going to be a problem. I would cancel the new order, and demand a refund for damaged goods. If the designer and or cabinet maker refuses, take them to small claims court. Your pictures are excellent and show just how bad the cabinets are, and you just need to show them in court, with the bill paid. (If it’s on a credit card, hurray- call the credit card right away and tell them the situation and you don’t want the company or designer paid until restitution has been made, ie you get your money back, they can come pick up their junk). $18000, wow you got had I’m afraid. Hope they’re on a card because the credit card company should back you up. I would also file a report with the better business bureau and any home improvement review sites in your area-especially if they give you a hard time. Keep us posted. Hope it turns out ok.

Even if they weren't damage I would not accept them. That is crap construction and design. Sub-par all around. I would cancel the whole order and start over. And not with that designer.

Can you please update us on your progress and decision? I was thinking about going with this company but I am running as fast as I can from them. Thanks!

Kith is also what many online sellers use, such as cabinets dot com, as well as brick and mortar like Surplus Warehouse/Barton’s. The only worse false expectations cabinet are TruWood. They’re both pushed as mid grade semi custom, but they are virtually stock junk.

I would have to say that based on those images, that looks to be more of a shipping issue. I been in the business a long time. I for one can tell you from those images that the transportation company did not adequately secure your cabinets in transit, or the cabinets were bounced around prior to Installation. Also, any cabinet that looked damage coming out of the box, should not have been Installed. The Installer should have known better! There isn't a company out there high or low value, that would have let those out the door. Regardless of time frame

@Ashley Ventresco curious, how this turned out since you posted two years ago? Didn't see you respond to all the feedback. I sure hope you got restitution from the KD and cabinet company!!
