While they IT folks are at it. Remove the silly "Best Answer" - sometimes it is someone asking for clarification.

Also, while we're at it, stop truncating posts and comments. What purpose does that serve? Just more work for us.

Thank goodness I don’t see “best comment”. I don’t know why I don’t, but I’m very glad not to.

• Seems to me that it's better to see what has been said first before commenting so recommendations are not repeated.

• Agree that Best Answer means nothing to anyone and please delete this function.

• That said, I have to strongly request that all posts cut off at 100 comments. I see posts extending to 4,000+ comments which no one can possibly read through. No Design Dilemma problem extends past 100 posts without getting off track. When the post goes past 100 it's typically taken over by a few posters who then use the forum as a Direct Messaging tool. Please stop this practice. These 'Titanic Posts' have such wide-ranging information that when they come up in a 'search' they are useless. Limiting the length of posts will also help keep the forum 'fresh'.

• The forum is cluttered with posters bringing years-old posts back to life. There might be some info that is valid, but typically the info is no longer valid. Please block the ability to bring a post that is more than 2 years old back to life. I'm not saying delete it, just keep it for reference. If someone wants to post how a project turned out they can start a Before and After post.

• Also, interior design is a visual medium, so please list instructions that push posters to include a picture with any Design Dilemma & give a recommended photo resolution. Thanks for listening.

Just stop messing with the site. The "read more" feature also stinks. Get a feature that allows a COPY/PASTE of an image, and a bypass of filing.

The 5000 comment thing? Sayonara. please.. Four year old threads? Sayonara please. Also, a fuller tutorial on HOW to post a question, right at the top. : ) Everyone knows what I'm talking about.

Everyone accepts that this is the internet. That fifty percent don't bother to read or even scan the previous comments. That said, it is beyond irritating that the posted questions have no way to be identified, no number, no original post date in bold, and a simple response moves something from 2012 to the top of a dilemma page. Maybe the lady with the counter top question figured it out in eight years..........or MOVED lol

Oldest first.

Stop the truncated comments.

And put the responses box back at the bottom.

No more best answer at the top of the thread.

Please, stop playing around with these interfaces. Surely there are better places for Houzz to focus its attention.

It's touted as so efficient, so permanent, so easily navigated...then SOMEONE changes the format--and we are told ONCE YOU MAKE THE CHANGE....but what I know, no matter what they say they will change it AGAIN and we all will waste MORE time re-orienting, re-learning, re-inventing the wheel. If it ain't broke don't fix it!! seems to work here. Who told you this needed tweaking??? Fire them.

Turns out the 3 or 4 threads going where people were complaining about the newest post first weren't just figments of my imagination.

People hate change, they resist change, and change isn't always a bad thing, just different.

But whenever you implement change you have 20% who are immediately onboard and supportive, 50% who shrug their shoulders and accept the changes as part of life, and 30% who will resist the change. That last 30% makes 90% of the noise.

The other way wouldn't make sense. Definitely older.

Jennifer, and then there are people who do not answer the question put forth, but prefer to insult their fellow forum members. They contribute nothing to the conversation and we should be able to mute them.

Often older post being dredged up are often spam.

I like to be able to still see them. Some of us have been here a long time. We remember so and so’s kitchen from years ago. Sometimes older threads can help new people with their renovations. We can always screen shoot it and repost.

Jennifer, change is often just a turning of the wheels in a misguided attempt to focus attention away from the things that aren't working. Please don't try to insult those of us who have spoken out (particularly those who have participated here for decades) by insinuating that our voices are merely noise.

Definitely, oldest first. I always read all the comments, as by reading them, a 'story' is being told by many voices. That being said, I always skip over the posts with over 100 comments, unless I have been following. They have clearly gone off track, or become 'chat rooms' for a few. There may be some really good information within those huge posts, but I can't imagine how anyone would find it.

As in real design life, design projects often start out with small piece and if the chemistry is right can evolve through a whole home. Relationships develop and when clients move I often go with them to new house. Long threads are like that to me. On ones where there evolves a dominate contributor one can pop in from time to time but if not there are plenty of other folks that are requesting help everyday. So leave it alone. Fix the long term problems and let the rest go. Focus IT efforts. Keep it as simple as possible. Thanks!!

Oldest first, and please fix notifications or add buttons : go to top, go to bottom. This would make navigation so much easier.

I dont mind long posts that are still active. Everybody can ignore them if they want. What I dislike are the " More discussions" and " Related discussions" which are often old, but that some people answer to because they do not realize they are not active. I do not undestand the need to clutter the screen with irrelevant info. Same for " people from your town like". I could not care less what some unknown people supposedly living in my neighborhood like.

And the comment box needs to be at the end of the comments so you don't have to go back up to comment...

If you really want to do something nice - allow us to respond to comments!! If a topic is getting alot of activity, it is difficult to follow a conversation when you are trying to answer a question that was 10 comments prior!

I think there should also be more than "like" - maybe one like "that's dated" , "that doesn't go together" , "you're on the right track" - some fun things

Get rid of “best answer”. This is not even accurate most of the time. Oldest comment first makes sense.

tbg1 is right all you need to do is read all the complaints and fix it. IMO if it ain't broke leave it alone and you really need to follow that suggestion. There has been so much toying with this site recently it is just annoying. I like to read from the oldest so I don't write something that has already been said.

How about replacing Related Discussion with Unanswered Postings. Related Discussions are old threads that get brought back to life usually because "newbies" don't take the time to see that the thread is no longer active. If someone really wants to see a Related Discussion they can search for it. The ease of searching and bringing attention to the unanswered posting without having to go into the Get Idea section would be more of a benefit for all than the Related Discussion section.

I prefer chronological order so that reading the post, then the comments, makes sense.

Would the team be able to develop a "jump to newest" button for the folks who want to skip to the latest and greatest?

Yes, to several of these suggestions- oldest first, bring back the double tap to get to the bottom (and newest) comments, and maintain the original post onscreen. I use an iPad. Thanks

I don't think anyone has mentioned my pet peeve, which is that often after 60 or so comments, it gets tiresome to scroll to the top just to find out who the original poster was. Somehow there needs to be a way to jump to their page and ideabooks throughout the comments. Maybe where the commentor's handle shows it should read like "decoenthusiast @ Emily H," so people could jump from deco's comment to Emily's page for reference. For example, what did she post about this dilemma two years ago? Now she's back for more help in the same space, so we need to have quick access to her previous ideas, photos, solutions offered then. I'm in the OLDEST camp.

I can’t believe that a company as big as Houzz still has not figured out how to host a message board. This isn’t a question you shouldnot even be asking as the answer is shockingly obvious.

This would be tremendously helpful. So that instead of bolding and italicizing another person's comments, like I just did, we could just [[quote]] [[/quote]] (using single brackets, though, instead of double as shown) and it would automatically format the OP's comment *with their username* in a little grayed box or something.

I just opened a thread. OP posed a question about a light fixture. Couldn't put the pic in the OP, so said she would put it below in a comment. Well, since the comments were newest to oldest, her first comment with the pic she was asking us to comment on was at the bottom of the page, not below her op. It's a ridiculous way to format threads.

One week since Houzz asked this question. One week of definitive response. And yet, the unwanted virus of newest-first continues to spread.

On both my devices, oldest-first is back! Yay!

I do have to say I like the comment being highlighted when you are going through the notifications so you know where you left off!

It is absurd to have a thread running on here, for five years to ten years or one the other day from 15 years past! ... "I'm redoing whatever........"

Perhaps these threads should be encouraged off site to private emails. I can't be the only one who suffers eye and tooth bleed at these?

I have no clue who devised the HU -USER screen name. It is annoying, and impossible to quickly identify a thread in notifications.

Surely folks can come up with a screen name more interesting........use the name of your dog if you must, but use some imagination!?

Ctrl End works for skipping to the end, but I'd like a way to click down to my own answer so I can read comments since would be nice rather than scrolling up from the end to find mine and then start reading.

But CTrl End doesn’t work on an iPad or cell phone.
