ISO retractable shade for pergola

We are in the process of adding a pergola to our deck. Since the deck faces south, we really need some type of covering for the roof on super sunny days. I’ve found two companies, ShadeFX out of Canada and Walpole Outdoors in MA. We want the shade to be retractable so we have the option of open air or a roof.

Has anyone had experience with either of these companies or could suggest another option?

Hi David—The contractor who built our pergola installed our ShadeFX shade without a hitch this spring. We ended up purchasing the shade directly from ShadeFX. Due to Covid issues and the difficulty of getting Sunbrella materials from the US to Canada, delivery was delayed last fall. By the time we receved fhe shade in October, we decided it was best to hold off till the spring to install.

We are thrilled with our shade! It has transformed our deck into another living space.

Sorry to hear your lack of response. We had nothing short of excellent customer service from the rep we dealt with. Keep trying. You won’t be disappointed.

Updating our search for a retractable shade. As it turns out, the company that is close to us actually uses ShadeFX out of Canada. They are coming next week to measure. If anyone is watching the new HGTV show on vacation remodels, this is the company that Scott visited and used for pergola in the first episode. Fingers crossed that we can get this installed soon enough to enjoy before the snow flys.

Great looking pergola. How did the shade from Shadefx go? I’m trying to order from the company but I have had trouble getting their rep to respond. Are you happy with Shadefx?

Thanks for your response. These shades are expensive but I haven’t found anything else that compares. Shadefx has said they’re 2-3 months out so I’m determined to stay on them.

Great looking pergola and shades - we are building our pergola . My contractor here in SoCal does Roman shades but I think I am going to ask him to look at shadeFX. Are you happy so far?
