I’m not an expert but our ductwork was along the center 15’ wide section so we did 9’ for the entire back length and 8’ ish in that center section. And 9 actually when first coming downstairs. I suppose if you end up with a lot of transitions you may prefer all 8’, but if you can get contiguous 9’ area I’d probably do that.

Varied but ONLY if you are finishing part of the basement as a family room, etc., but leaving part of it for mechanical/storage use (electrical panel, heat/ac water heater, etc.). Finish the ceiling in the living area 8' and any closets associated wit it but there is really no reason -- and it may be counterproductive -- to finish a ceiling in what will be a mechanical area that , for safety sake -- especially if there will be children living/visiting there -- should likely stay locked, if only a non-key lock of some kind -- thumb turn of slide bolt -- high on the door to discourage entry by small children and curious visitors.

If you can finish the finished part higher than an 8' ceiling, do.

I would get as much height as possible. Might do some faux trim treatments that unify the looks.

Maybe a coffered look depending on furr down locations.

Whatever you decide, soundproof it!!! My home office is right above the basement rec room tv, and recently retired hubby bout a fancy sound bar for the tv, and I can hear it loud and clear from my office.

IMO it is either one or the other and in your a flat 8’ is the answer all those ups and downs IMO make no sense in a basement. BTW with all that plumbing I would do a dropped ceiling , there are some really nice ceiling panels now , that style ceiling also allows for lED pot lights to easily installed.

Here is a 3D rendering we created with 8' ceilings. The only place that I think could entertain higher ceiling would be above the sofa between the beams. Do you think that would be worth it? Or should I just keep it clean and simple with 8'? Thanks all!

In your situation, straight is best.
