I've done it many years, especially with potatoes that are classified as "early."

Would you folks have any suggestions for good potato types to put in now?

These would be for cooking in a microwave (for me and the kid).

I use Smart Pots (first year) on a sunny (6 am to 5 pm) patio.

Hard to (impossible in most places) find seed potatoes during the summer. Have any old sprouted potatoes around?

Yukon Gold and similar types are fine. Red Norland and similar redskinned are fine. Probably not growing to grow large russet bakers, but even if you grew those you would still get some small potatoes that are fine to eat.

No, I just have some small organic reds and organic yukon gold in the fridge.

What is the best way to get them (one of them) to sprout quickly?

Or should I just plant them and pray?

Has anyone tried it further south. I can get close to the time needed to grow the potatoes by planting about August 1st but not sure it potatoes can handle 95 degree days, 80 degree nights. I can fall plant tomatoes and make it but not sure how potatoes handle that kind of heat and humidity.

To get them to sprout it would be best to take them out of fridge and put them in a dry dark place. The back of the cupboard seems to work well for me, even when I don't want them to sprout.

I have now put them in the drawer below the oven (I do not use the oven).

They are covered by a box lid, so it should be very dark.
