I have inherited a Pittosporum tenuifolium tree that has been poorly pruned for many years. My goal is to evenutally help it be part of a 5-6' hedge. I was thinking of cutting it back to 1 foot in height this fall in the hope that it would sprout from that base. Would appreciate any thoughts on the likely success of this strategy. Perhaps I should cut back now while it is in more of a growth mode. I am based in Oakland, CA - a mild, non freezing climate.
