No, Ken_adrian, foliage is intact. The peas have been knawed all the way open and then peas eaten while on the vine! I haven’t noticed ant otger rabbit damage (veg garden is fenced) (not that that means anything)! This year, slugs a plenty, robins and beetles of every kind butnever have seen this kind of damage before.

Looks like mice, voles, or ground squirrels. They will chew through a bean or pea pod to get the seeds. I see some damage like that every year, they are a persistent pest on my cowpeas & soybeans... but I can usually trap enough of them to minimize the damage.

Maybe voles but. How are you successful at trapping them?

I use plastic mouse traps with bait cups, and either peanut butter or pieces of dried apricot for bait. The dried apricot seems to be the most effective, it gives off a strong scent. Jam a small piece tightly into the bait cup, and place the trap where the mice run, under the foliage close to the stem of the target plants. I place a survey flag close to the trap, to make it easier to find.

Check & clean the trap(s) at least daily, you probably have more than one & they will get wise if a dead mouse is left in the trap.
