Help! Modern Spanish with a pine ceiling?

Hi everyone-

Remodeling/updating a spanish style "bungalow" in los angeles and the upstairs has this tongue and groove pine ceiling that was shellacked and has ambered over time. deciding what to do with it...it's hard to white wash over it without getting orange/pink tones through it. gray tinted stain goes blueish with as you can see in the pictures.

should I paint it? paint it light? paint it dark? stain it dark? I really like natural wood, but the orange feels too cabin to me and doesn't match the modern/spanish style of the house. what should I do? thanks for your advice!
