I don’t know about the black squiggles but the foliage looks desperately dried up. Have you watered it?

I don't know what caused the black lines either. You left it out while waiting a week to plant it? Was it well-watered?

It’s in a really big plastic pot with soil, the root ball has plenty of space, I didn’t want to plant on the ground, because I’m moving soon. when it came in the leaves were pretty dried up, as was the soil, but I thought I could nurse it back, some of the leaves are pliable and not dry at all now that I have been watering it.

Also I might add the day i received the tree it was 97 degrees out :(

When you say "root ball" do you mean a burlap type sack it may have arrived in? I know that some say to plant with the sack in place but I remove mine before planting, even when planted in the ground, in a pot it may be worse. Usually there is a metal wire holding the burlap onto the tree trunk which can strangle the tree in time. I doubt that's the cause of the pic problem but it's a consideration if true, esp in a pot/container.
