How to water pumpkins

Help me please...This is the second year growing pumpkins. I am a good grower...but do not know pumpkins. My vines are about 6-7 feet long with several pumpkins each. However, my leaves are wilted (bowing) from 11am-5pm. I have tried watering (drip tape) long and infrequent then every 3 days for shorter times. My vines are in raised beds (mounded). I know my native soil below is clay. Am I over or under watering. My moisture meter at 6-7 inches says moist (not dry or wet). thank you

They do like water, and they do wilt in the heat of the day. When I grew giant pumpkins they needed water every day.

Not sure where you are or your weather, but I would give them a good soaking at least every other day.

Check if they're perky in the morning or if they perk up in the evening when it cools off. Then they might not need daily watering.

thanks Nancy...yes, they perk up in early evening. I know water-logging plants can actually prevent plants from taking up water. That is what I am worried about with my heavy native soil beneath my raised beds.
