Gray ceilings could make it dreary.

I am currently in the process of painting all the ceilings in my house white because the previous owner had painted all of them the same color as the walls (yellow beige) - you don't realize how off it feels until you are living in it.

I think you would be happier with white in the end. I think when walls and ceilings are the same color it has to feel like a very intentional design statement.

Dolphin fin is actually a pretty good gray. I paired it with a white ceiling and trim.

for my vaulted ceiling I actually did reclaimed wood. doing a planked wood ceiling would actually look great in your room! (just sayin')

But without that, I'd do the white. Just do a plain ceiling white from Behr. they have it ready mixed. "Ceiling White". lol In the past, I"ve just used the white base color straight from the can. No added tint to it. It's a perfect bright white.

I think more traditional homes, i.e. those with crown molding and other woodwork, look best with white ceilings. But a more modern house looks great with a single color, so that the planes and heights speak for themselves without needing color changes.
