IMO warm light is warm light regardless of the type of lighting . You can get LED tubes for the fixtures you have until you are ready to close up those holes and do pot lights all over the space which is what you need

It looks like a nice option to me, but it depends on whether they fit the space you need to cover. If they will hang below the ceiling instead of recessing into the hole, that might be a problem, depending on your basement's ceiling height.

Replacing the fluorescents with LED tubes will give nicer light, but still be less attractive. Have you gotten a quote to repair the holes (shouldn't need to re-do the entire ceiling)? That might not cost as much as you think.

I have gotten some 1' x 4' LED ceiling lamps and I like them a lot. The ones I got from Lowes cost about $100 each and you can change the color temperature, although only on installation. The other day I saw some at Costco for about half that price, but didn't investigate them because my project was finished.
